About the Role

The Principal of Data Science will lead and scale data science, driving ad targeting, bidding strategies, and audience-building innovation. The primary focus will be leveraging data to create predictive models and algorithms that enhance ad personalization while maintaining user privacy. This role requires deep machine learning and data analytics expertise to optimize Sovrn’s programmatic advertising capabilities. Collaboration with product, engineering, and commercial teams will be essential to ensure data-driven strategies align with business objectives.

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Technical Modeling. Develop and implement predictive models and algorithms to optimize ad targeting and bidding strategies. Leverage machine learning and statistical modeling to build audience segments, ensuring personalized ad experiences. Ensure user privacy remains a top priority while developing advanced personalization techniques.
  • Technical Leadership. Stay informed on emerging trends in machine learning, digital advertising, and data privacy regulations. Contribute to the overall data strategy to drive innovation in the digital media ecosystem. Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on deep ad tech and programmatic data analysis. 
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate data science models into production systems. Guide and mentor Data Scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and learning within the team.

A successful candidate will have: 

  • 8+ years of experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data analytics, strongly focusing on digital advertising.
  • Experience applying data science in ad tech, programmatic advertising, and the broader digital media ecosystem.
  • Technical proficiency:
    • Proficiency in Python programming
    • Deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
    • Cloud Computing platforms (AWS, GCP)
    • MLOps Frameworks (Kubeflow, MLFlow)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and deploying machine learning models to solve business problems, particularly in the context of programmatic advertising or digital marketing.
  • Comfort to collaborate with software engineers to understand complex systems and abstracted logs
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with a track record of mentoring and developing data science talent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this position is $190,000 to $215,000 annually. In addition to the base salary, the total compensation package includes bonus, equity, and benefits. Actual earnings may vary depending on the candidate's direct experience, skills, industry knowledge, and location.
