Who We Are

Neya is a leader in advanced robotics developing off-road autonomy for both commercial and defense customers. Our deep domain expertise spans autonomy, perception, cyber security, mission planning, simulation, and standards; all of which support a wide range of DoD and commercial thrust areas. Our main center of gravity is in the Pittsburgh area.

This position is in-office, with expectations to support regular on-vehicle testing and field experimentation.

We're looking for a Staff I Robotics Software Engineer with a Robotics Integration focus to join our team. You should have a strong technical background and a curiosity to develop novel solutions to unsolved problems. You will assist in full-stack autonomy development with the opportunity to work on a diverse set of robotics challenges ranging from control of large construction equipment to drone navigation and planning, autonomous jet-ski perception, 3D scene reconstruction, and kinodynamic planning for self-driving off-road vehicles. You will work with a strong team of scientists and engineers to help create specialized autonomy behaviors as well as critical enhancements to our baseline autonomy stack: N-Drive.

What You’ll Do

  • Enhance and optimize implementations of cutting-edge localization and path planning systems for off-road vehicles.
  • Stress test and improve traversability estimation perception layers that model complex off-road environments through multi-modal sensor fusion.
  • Work with other team members (inside and outside of Neya) to provide datasets to support autonomous navigation research and development
  • Conduct field tests and experimental characterization of system performance
  • Simulate and analyze edge case scenarios using our off-road-focused VISE simulation engine
  • Identify new opportunities to deploy autonomy, target customers and participate in customer engagement

What We’re Looking For

  • S or MS in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, etc. or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 0-2 years of experience with a master’s degree
  • Skilled in writing object-oriented code in C++ using a Git-based workflow in a Linux environment
  • Some experience with publish/subscribe communication frameworks, especially ROS
  • Knowledgeable in modern software principles, architecture, and design
  • Excellent mathematical reasoning skills, especially with statistics and probability
  • Familiarity with unit testing suites such as GTest or CppUnit
  • General understanding of Agile software development cycle and development methodology

How To Stand Out

  • Experience with autonomous and robotic systems
  • Familiarity or experience with sensor data processing software libraries such as OpenCV and PCL and open-source robotics frameworks like ROS
  • Strong interest in autonomous technologies and applications
  • Experience with sensor data processing, path planning, localization, or control
  • Some experience with developing robotics algorithms
  • Demonstrated success working with cross-functional teams
