Your role
Perform and deliver a range of data analytics, reporting and data visualisation utilising data within /across Unit/Branch/Division, to support and improve organisational performance. Support the collection of data that enables this delivery.
What you’ll do
You will assume the technical responsibility for all stages of the data collection, data management including ETL, and data pipelines to ensure compliance with data management standards and achievement of documented requirements. You will also be responsible for the development of effective data analytics and visualisation to enable decision making. You will work with functions available within the Google Cloud Platform and within the parameters of the DCJ Federated Analytics Platform, collaborating with IT personnel where relevant.
- Design and develop streamlined, user focused data collection mechanisms and maintain core data sets including quality and consistency, to meet the analysis and reporting needs of the branch/ division.
- Design, develop and test data visualisation solutions such as dashboards using visualisation platforms e.g., Looker (Google Data Studio), applying optimal data visualisation techniques to satisfy complex/ varied user requirements.
- Undertake analysis, interpretation, and reporting on data from internal data sets to inform organisational performance reporting and reform initiatives.
- With IT support manage and maintain established data pipelines/ workflows using the available Google Cloud Platform.
- Provide specialist advice and recommendations to the Manager in support of performance monitoring and reporting governance processes.
- Design, develop and implement performance measures and governance processes to improve business systems/ processes, and enhance organisational capability in understanding performance information and the end-user’s understanding of information through good design in appropriate platforms.
What we’re looking for
- Relevant tertiary/professional qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience in Business Analytics, ETL, data visualisation using established reporting tools, preferably Looker or similar.
- Good to have understandings on Google Cloud Platform, especially areas like BigQuery and Cloud storage.
- Recent experience in data warehouse tools and technologies, including building workflows, writing SQL queries.
- High level of autonomy in setting own priorities, and those of any staff/project staff supervised, in alignment with management with focus on timely, quality delivery.
- Maintains a degree of independence to develop a suitable approach in managing the workload, as well as that of supervised staff, and provision of advice and recommendations as well as input to the development of relevant systems, frameworks, team planning and projects.
- Determines own actions undertaken, within government and legislative policies, and for ensuring quality control in the implementation of own, and any staff supervised, workload.
- Ensures recommendations are based on sound evidence, but at times may be required to use their judgment under pressure or in the absence of complete information or as a source of expert advice to internal stakeholders across the Department as well as externally to Ministerial level.
- As necessary, consults with management on a suitable course of action in matters that are sensitive, high-risk, or business-critical, or for those issues that have far reaching implications with respect to resources or quality advice provision.
