Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY
This Senior Nursing Informatics Specialist role will have a data analytics focus. This position plays a key role in bridging end-users, reporting teams, Health IT, Nursing Informatics, and clinical leadership to develop, enhance, and optimize data analytics and reporting tools that address the evolving needs of clinical nursing and the Nursing Informatics department. This role gathers, integrates, and analyzes relevant data, conducting queries and generating actionable reports using a range of technology platforms, including but not limited to SQL, Epic, RedCap, Excel, and Tableau. In addition to providing technical expertise, the Data Analyst mentors and trains Nursing Informaticists and clinical leaders on reporting best practices, fostering a data-driven culture that supports informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as a bridge between clinical end-users, nursing leaders, reporting teams, and Health IT to align data solutions with clinical and organizational needs.

  • Identifies key trends through comprehensive data analysis and integrates findings to drive positive change and support evidence-based decision-making.

  • Selects or develops appropriate data collection tools and creates clear, actionable visualizations for end-users and leadership. Communicates findings effectively to support informed decisions.

  • Ensures the involvement of key stakeholders throughout the data collection and analysis process. Prioritizes data activities based on organizational goals and user needs.

  • Applies evidence-based tools and effective communication strategies to accurately define problems. Collaborates with stakeholders to align priorities and focus data collection efforts.

  • Submits and tracks IT enhancement requests for dashboards and reports. Ensures timely progress through the approval process, advocating for customers as needed.

  • Mentors team members and other stakeholders in healthcare informatics and data analytics, fostering skill development. Serves as a role model within the department by promoting collaboration and best practices.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Data Analytics (Intermediate): Analyzes and interprets complex datasets to generate actionable insights and develop innovative solutions. Utilizes advanced analytics tools such as SQL, Tableau, Excel, and RedCap to create meaningful dashboards and reports that support data-driven decision-making.

  • Communication of Results (Intermediate): Translates complex data findings into clear, non-technical language for end-users and stakeholders. Delivers presentations and reports with precision, using appropriate tools such as Word, Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint to ensure accuracy and clarity in all reporting deliverables.

  • Data Acquisition (Intermediate): Identifies relevant data sources, tables, and elements needed for analysis. Writes SQL queries to extract data efficiently and performs rigorous quality control to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Has working knowledge of data warehouse applications such as Oracle, Netezza, IBM UDMH, or Epic systems.

  • Planning (Intermediate): Effectively plans and organizes work to meet deadlines while managing multiple assignments. Demonstrates flexibility by adapting to shifting priorities without compromising productivity or customer satisfaction. Employs efficient time management strategies to ensure smooth task completion.

  • Problem Management (Intermediate): Exhibits expertise in incident tracking and problem reporting for applications, handling complex technical issues with confidence. Proactively identifies, documents, and communicates problems, ensuring timely resolution through collaboration with stakeholders.
