The Opportunity
The Program Impact Assessment Analyst will play a leading role in the measurement, evaluation, and reporting on the ongoing outcomes of Biohub San Francisco’s Investigator Program. The Analyst will work with the Director of Scientific Program Management to analyze collaborations, grants, and publications data, alongside qualitative data and assessments from annual reports, one-on-one discussion with Investigators and other Program stakeholders, and other data sources. This role involves developing strategies for providing data-driven insights into the impact of Biohub funding, resources, and community on scientific progress. The Program Impact Assessment Analyst will also contribute to the development of presentations and reports that highlight key program achievements and inform strategic decision-making.
You will
- Conduct in-depth analysis and visualization of:
- Research trajectories from initial goals to achieved outcomes
- Contributions to IP, licensing, spinouts, software, and distinguished awards
- Career progression of trainees, particularly those advancing to faculty or industry positions
- Collaboration and grants data, including proactive outreach to gather missing information
- Publications data, integrating quantitative and qualitative metrics
- Intellectual property data, including invention disclosures, patent filings, and licensing agreements
- Self-reported impact assessments, correlating narratives to measurable outcomes
- Comprehensive impact summaries, including:
- Develop and maintain a "cool science pipeline" for use in Investigator Program presentations and communications:
- Compile and curate a tickler file of success stories, monitoring publications, annual reports, invention disclosures, patent filings, and licensing agreements
- Serve as a discussion partner and sounding board for strategic communication efforts
- Strategize and identify key Investigators and other affiliates for interviews to gather qualitative insights
- Explore and propose new survey methodologies, data sources, assessment tools, and external expertise to enhance program evaluation
- Work with the Director of Scientific Program Management, Biohub leadership, CZI and Biohub Network partners, and other Investigator Program stakeholders to strategize and refine our approaches for compelling storytelling and data visualization
- Cultivate professional contacts and resources for ongoing learning and discussion about approaches for program impact assessment - including lessons learned, new experiments, and best practices - e.g., through participation in the MEL interest group of the Science Philanthropy Alliance
You have
Essential –
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM plus at least 5 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in STEM plus at least 3 years of relevant experience OR a PhD in STEM (strongly preferred)
- 3 to 5 years of computational and data analysis experience in compiling, cleaning, and organizing data from structured and unstructured sources, exploratory data analysis, and data visualization
- 3 to 5 years of experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. Python, R, Excel, Prism)
- Excellent science communication skills for both scientific and lay audiences, including writing, proofreading, and presenting complex concepts and data clearly
- Familiarity with scientific publication processes, grant writing and management, and collaboration networks
- Independent and self-directed, with excellent time management and organizational skills and with excellent attention to detail
- Highly collaborative and team-oriented; strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills
Nice to have -
- Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., cell, molecular, or developmental biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, data science, or a related discipline) strongly preferred
- Experience working in a research or academic setting with a focus on program evaluation or impact assessment
- Experience in survey design, qualitative research, or narrative analysis is highly desirable

Compensation
- $112,000 - $130,000
