The Director of Data Architecture & Engineering will play a crucial role within the business, overseeing the design, implementation, and management of our medallion architecture Data Lakehouse and cloud-based analytics environments.

This position is responsible for ensuring that the Data Lakehouse is scalable and accommodates multiple source systems, supports business objectives, and adheres to best practices in data architecture and engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data management, architecture, engineering, and integration, with a proven track record of leading complex data projects in the cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1.  Strategic Leadership:

   - Develop and execute the data architecture and engineering strategy aligned with the company’s business and IT goals.

   - Collaborate with business and IT leaders to understand data and development needs and ensure that data architecture and engineering support these requirements and are built for scale.

 

2.  Data Lakehouse Development:

   - Lead the design, build, and implementation of a scalable Data Lakehouse that integrates multiple source systems and aligned with the data consumption needs of all business users.

   - Ensure the data Lakehouse is optimized for performance, scalability, modularity, and reliability.

 

3.  Cloud Environment Management:

   - Own the implementation and sustainability of cloud environments that enable analytics, application development, and data science.

   - Ensure the cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, modular, and cost-effective.

 

4.  Data Pipeline Development:

   - Build and maintain robust data pipelines within a medallion architecture framework.

   - Oversee the integration of disparate data sources into the Data Lakehouse, ensuring data consistency, modularity, and quality.

 

5.  Technical Expertise:

   - Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in data architecture and engineering.

   - Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the data architecture and engineering teams.

 

6.  Collaboration and Communication:

   - Work closely with data engineers, data architects, data scientists, and data analysts to ensure seamless data flow, data storage, and accessibility.

   - Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner to ensure understanding and adherence to our data strategy.

 

7.  Compliance and Best Practices:

   - Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.

   - Promote best practices in data management, architecture, and engineering across the organization.

Minimum Requirements:

-Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 13+ years of professional

experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

 

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.

- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, data management, or related roles.

- Proven experience in designing and implementing Data Lakehouses and data warehouses.

- Strong knowledge of data integration techniques and tools.

- Proficiency in ELT and ETL processes, data modeling, and medallion architecture.

- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Google Cloud)

- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$176,900 - $294,800
