Data Analyst
Grade 7: £40,247 to £47,874 per annum
CMVM / MGPHS / USHER Institute
Full-time: 35 hours per week
Fixed Term: available from 1st January 2025 to 31st July 2026

The Centre for Medical Informatics at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for a motivated individual to become a part of the Time Critical Precision Medicine for Acute Critical Illness Using Treatable Trait Principles (TRAITS) trial team. The investigator team aims to establish a data-enabled platform across the UK to facilitate efficient trial design.

The Opportunity:
This exciting opportunity will require the postholder to create data capture pipelines combined with linkage to routine data sources across the UK. The post holder will work with large amounts of highly complex confidential electronic health data, including high dimensional data from clinical information systems as well as linked data from routine data source held in NHS Scotland.

They will provide analytical expertise to the TRAITS team and liaise with trial sites to provide advice and support to establish and develop data pipelines. They will identify gaps in information, conduct analyses to interrogate and resolve issues and challenges with these real world datasets, combining information from different data sources. They will also be responsible for processing, maintaining and documenting the datasets, analytic approaches and algorithms.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • A good degree and higher degree in a scientific or numerate subject, or able to demonstrate relevant and equivalent experience
  • Experience in writing complex queries to interrogate databases (e.g. SQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle) using one or more statistical software packages 
  • The ability to extract data and a good understanding of transferring and transforming data, for analysis using different statistical packages
  • Ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and excellent written and oral English language communication skills
  • Understanding and/or experience of health records and health informatics, knowledge of health record coding systems and the principles of security and confidentiality of personal data
