The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and compliance to policy, legislation, and standards, for addiction and mental health services, as well as proactive monitoring of substance use and mental health data to support system planning. 
 
The Ministry works with service providers and community partners to design and enhance a coordinated community-based addiction and mental health care system, leveraging policy and practice innovations and research and evaluation to enable the best possible outcomes for Albertans. 
 
The Ministry works closely with other cross-ministry partners, external organizations, other Canadian provinces, and the Government of Canada to plan addiction and mental health service delivery.

Role Responsibilities

Want to join the new and growing Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction?  We have an exciting Senior Research & Data Analyst position.

This role will report to the Manager, Business Intelligence, and is accountable for several functions that inform system monitoring and surveillance, continuous improvement and ultimately guide future direction and decision making in the provincial addiction and mental health (AMH) system. This position is required to inform current response and support continuous improvement of the provincial AMH system. In addition, this position will provide leadership on systems planning and support corporate reporting on behalf of the branch.

The Senior Research & Data Analyst will provide expertise in data visualization, preparing analytic reports, specific to addiction and mental health. Key responsibilities of this position include gathering (through work with data analysts or through literature searches), interpreting, and summarizing complex health data, providing context and meaning to data, developing valuable indicators and tools, and transforming data into high quality information enabling health system evidence-based decision making. This position supports the Ministry in systems planning work and contributes to and leads work that ultimately guides future direction, decision making and innovation in the provincial addiction and mental health system.

Qualifications

University degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Health Administration, or Business Administration, and a minimum of four years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Required experience:

  • Leading projects
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Conducting data analysis and interpretation
  • Developing knowledge translation tools
  • Developing and implementing key performance indicators


Assets:

  • Master’s degree in a related field such as Social Sciences, Public Policy, Health Administration, or Business Administration
  • Experience in health care or social services, and/or addiction and mental health
  • Experience using data analytics and visualization tools such as SAS, SAS Viya, R Programming, Python, and Power BI


Equivalencies maybe considered - directly related education or experience on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

  • 7.25 daily hours
  • 36.25 weekly hours
  • 8:15 am to 4:30 pm (Monday to Friday)
