Open Rank Faculty in the Robotics Department

Our robotics department is expected to grow to 20 full-time faculty, and we are now seeking applications for new faculty appointments. We invite candidates at all levels to apply.

Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is the world’s first AI university. It is a graduate-level research-oriented university with 200 Master’s students and 85 PhD students from over 40 nationalities (31% female), and over 70 world-leading faculty members. The university started with three departments:  Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing, and has recently launched two new departments: Robotics and Computer Science with first student intake this coming Fall. MBZUAI is ranked 18th in the world for AI, and is one of only 8 universities in the world to be ranked in the top-30 for each of CV, ML, and NLP (csrankings.org).

The new robotics department will focus on rigorous, high-impact, original research emphasizing robot learning (eg CoRL) and robot algorithms (eg WAFR) rather than development of new robot hardware. Topics of interest include but are not limited to deep learning, control theory, robot manipulation, quadruped locomotion, HRI, robot-assisted surgery and healthcare, precision agriculture and indoor farming, recycling, and environment and infrastructure monitoring.

Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or in a closely related area before the start of the appointment. They should have demonstrated excellence in conducting innovative and impactful research, and an interest in mentoring graduate students.
