YOUR ROLE
We are looking for a strategic and dynamic Senior Data Governance Leader to drive our governance initiatives forward with a strong focus on change management and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will have a passion for guiding business teams through the adoption of data governance principles, fostering collaboration, and creating repeatable frameworks that support effective data management across the organization. You will have the opportunity to develop a strategic vision and roadmap for the organization’s data governance efforts, building a culture of data stewardship, ensuring data integrity, setting the direction for how data is managed, secured, and utilized while aligning with broader business objectives and driving long term value.
 

What you will be doing
• Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework that aligns with the Genworth’s business objectives and regulatory requirements, focusing on data quality, compliance, and privacy.
• Oversee and mentor an existing data governance team providing direction, setting clear goals, and fostering a collaborative environment. Ensure the team is equipped to implement governance standards effectively and drive continuous improvements in data quality and governance across the organization.
• Lead change management efforts to increase adoption of data governance policies and practices across business units. Develop training programs, communication plans, and engagement strategies to foster a culture of data stewardship.
• Build strong relationships with business leaders, data owners, and key stakeholders to drive commitment and support for data governance initiatives. Act as a trusted advisor, helping teams understand the value of data governance in achieving strategic goals.
• Enhance and maintain existing data governance policies, standards, and best practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security. Oversee the creation of new & refinement of existing data dictionaries, data lineage documentation, data quality rules, and data stewardship roles.
• Expand utilization of processes for monitoring and improving data quality across systems. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and existing internal policies, managing audits and risk assessments as needed.
• Develop and oversee a data stewardship program that empowers business units to take ownership of their data assets, ensuring accountability and adherence to governance practices.
• Define and track key performance indicators for data governance initiatives. Communicate progress and impact to senior leadership, highlighting success and areas for improvement.
 

What you bring
• Bachelor’s degree in technology field or equivalent relevant work experience
• 7 or more years of practical experience in data governance, data management, or related roles.
• Proven experience in leading change management initiatives, particularly in driving organizational adoption of new processes or frameworks.
• Demonstrated, measurable success in building data governance frameworks and engaging with cross-functional teams.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and inspire stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Strong leadership and change management skills, with a track record of driving cultural change.
• Analytical mindset with problem solving abilities to address complex data and organizational challenges.
• Strong understanding of data governance tools, platforms, and practices.
 

Nice to have
• Certification in data governance or data management (e.g. CDMP, DGSP)
• Familiarity with data warehouse, data lakes, and cloud platforms is a plus.
• Experience in regulated industries such as finance, insurance, or healthcare.
• Experience with project management methodologies and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $ 124,500 up to the maximum of $201,500. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 15% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
