We are currently looking for a Principal Applied Scientist who can harness their experience to build, develop, and improve world-class image models for our products. This is a leadership position, to get the means and the team to have a clear impact on the life of millions of people. We’re walking an already proven path commercially, but there is much to do still and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a dent in the tech universe.

At Photoroom, we use ML to provide stunning images to millions of users. We develop our own models using the latest Research and tools to shape the future of generative AI for images. The field is changing fast, and what was unimaginable a few years back is the new norm, with more to come. This is trickling down to everyday users through building a great and accessible product, across many dimensions and modalities.

🇬🇧 PhotoRoom is an international team and we work in English. We offer language lessons for those who need them (English & French).

✨ About the role ✨

  • You will be part of a growing team of around 10 people, working alongside great talent from various backgrounds and contributing to world-class results in the ML space.

  • You will lead sizable research efforts, from data volume (100M filtered sample scale) to compute resources (256 H100s on tap, possible overflow), leading to models which serve billions of requests a year.

  • You will pre-train diffusion foundational models, possibly image backbones or decoders, you will be instrumental in a range of efforts and orchestrate research at the SOTA level.

  • You will collaborate and partner with other Applied Scientists to work on new features and applications.

  • Your strong Research background will be a huge asset to the team, helping us evaluate and identify the ML trends we want to follow. You will grow the team around you and communicate publicly on your research.

✨ About you ✨

  • Relevant candidates usually have more than 7 years of experience and a PhD in Machine Learning

  • Several years of experience working with deep learning and/or foundation models (whether from industry or academia)

  • You have been leading a Research lab or being one of the main contributor on a large scale core training team

  • You have extensive expertise in the latest libraries, frameworks, and tools in ML.
