We serve around 8 million people across the Midlands and Wales and unlike other businesses, our delivery is non-negotiable. It’s a matter of life.

Many of our employees are also our customers, so we truly take pride in what we do! LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Our Data Analyst-Technology Graduate Programme offers the opportunity to belong to a new team who are revolutionising the way Data is treated and used by Severn Trent Water. Along with the opportunity to train as a Data Analyst with transferable skills.

A day in the life of a Technology Leadership Graduate at Severn Trent involves a wide variety of tasks.

Focusing on task like;

  • Helping to design and deliver the new Data Framework
  • Conducting data flow reviews to identify areas of excellence and opportunities for improvement
  • Performing data related Incident and Risk analysis
  • Carrying out AI governance activities and conduct solution analysis on prospective AI tools.
  • Some Business As Usual activities including SARs (Subject Access Requests), Audits and fielding business issues and queries relating to data.
  • Working with colleagues across Severn Trent to establish data related needs and, where appropriate, provide insightful and accurate information.
  • Producing data dashboards and reports to help us make the complex simple.
  • Ensuring data is being used ethically and in line with relevant legislation (e.g. GDPR).
  • Practicing self-learning to keep up to date with technological developments and take responsibility for own professional development.

In addition to daily tasks there are plenty of opportunities to expand your network through social events and engagement activities across the department, this is vital for successful collaboration with cross-functional teams within technology.

You’ll spend time supporting projects which include designing a new Data Management Framework from scratch. They will be assigned a work package from this programme and have the opportunity to see it through from conception to delivery as a new STW BAU process.

There are likely to be other targeted projects too based on Continuous Improvements we need to make either to internal team processes or wider business processes relating to data and potentially AI.

The aim of the programme is to bring you up to a level where you can be reasonably described as a Data Analyst including some relevant technical training (e.g. Python, SQL).

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You’ll gain a strong business and commercial acumen, working along side the Office of data, which serves the Chief Data Officer with responsibility for ensuring Severn Trent is making the best use of our data and that that data is well governed.
