Join our dynamic and innovative Fraud Analytics team, where we are committed to safeguarding millions of Canadians from fraudulent activities across various Interac products and business. We leverage advanced data analytics and cutting-edge technology to stay ahead of fraud trends. We are looking for a talented Data Insight & Enablement Intern to drive our fraud detection efforts through actionable insights, robust data solutions, and collaborative research.
You will be responsible for providing actionable insights into rule-based fraud detection, feature development, and statistical analysis of new and existing fraud trends. You will work under general guidance of Data Specialists or Managers to identify, design, develop and support data solution for business. You will also work with the fraud teams to provide deliverables including research insights, data assets, and visualizations to help the end-user develop a better understanding of the topic.
As part of Data & Analytics, this co-op position will assist the enterprise data science and analytics enginnering functions in the development and execution of data products and services. You're great at Mining Data, identify trends, innovative, excellent communicator and quick learner
You’ll be responsible for:
Collaborating with subject matter experts to implement data products (reports, insights, dashboard, etc), document process and identify enhancement
Assist in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets -identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within the data to provide meaningful insights.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into analytical solutions.
Work with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or other relevant platforms.
Providing recommendations for process improvements based on data analysis and individual research on the latest trends.
Documenting processes, methodologies, and insights for future reference.
Support in developing and executing programs and initiatives to enhance data literacy and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
Support in defining key initiatives, milestones, and success metrics for the implementation of the data enablement strategy.
Support in developing resources to facilitate continuous learning and development related to data analytics and AI.
Identify and implement improvements for existing data products to improve accuracy, usability, and performance.
Research and develop new data science tools to improve the countermeasure process, including testing and validation.
Conduct ad-hoc data analysis, create reports, and respond to data inquiries with actionable insights using various reporting and data visualization tools.
Develop and test Fraud detection rules and conduct fraud trend & alert analysis
Working with internal data and analytics consumers to deliver end-to-end data related projects
Contributing to the development of reusable data products and services through operationalization of insights on our cloud data platform
Building and/or deploying internal tools to solve problems or improve process
Developing production level code to help productionizing data science research work.
Generating new ideas, challenging the status quo, taking risks, supporting change, encouraging innovation, and solving problems creatively
Managing deliverables and timelines for own deliverables, negotiating with internal stakeholders to meet relevant project milestones.

Experience with manipulating big data using Python, SQL or similar languages for data manipulation or analysis
Familiarity with data mining, data structures, algorithms, machine learning libraries (sklearn, xgboost) and databases such as Redshift and Oracle
Familiarity with building and testing machine learning models on cloud platforms
Experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and feature development within relavent industries\
The ability to give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information.
You are a proactive problem-solver with a demonstrated track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives – you are a self starter and are able to prioritize tasks
Currently completing an undergraduate degree from a creditable Canadian institution with a focus on business administration (information management, business, management), bachelor of science ( mechanical/electrical engineering) ; data science, data analytic.
Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:
Familiarity with Linux-based systems, Git, PySpark, Distributed Computing and software engineering principles
Knowledge of data management, project management and data governance concepts
Interest or understanding of the banking/payments industry
Familiarity with risk or fraud detection context
Dedication to research and improve the overall analysis process and ensure data accuracy
Previous internship experience as a data scientist, data analyst or business analyst
Workstyle: Hybrid
Location: Toronto
Term: January to April 2025
Working Days: Monday - Friday
