Summary:

We are currently seeking a new Data Engineer, Co-op, to join our Engineering team in Burnaby, Calgary or Toronto.

 

Applicants should be available for an 8-month co-op period from January 2025 to August 2025.

What your team does:
 

As part of the Data Engineering team, you’ll contribute to building and optimizing the data and analytics infrastructure for a high-growth, venture-backed company. You’ll gain hands-on experience with technologies such as Python, AWS, Terraform, Databricks, and dbt, among others. This role offers close collaboration with the Data Science team and cross-functional partners to address data needs across the organization.


What you’ll work on:

  • Actively contribute as a member of Clio’s Data Engineering team, supporting data-driven projects and initiatives.

  • Scope, plan, and prioritize data projects in alignment with organizational goals.

  • Track and report on project progress, proactively identifying and addressing any blockers.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and fulfill data requirements across departments.

  • Participate in and conduct regular code reviews to ensure quality and consistency.

  • Design and implement scalable cloud-based data infrastructure to support analytics and operations.

  • Develop and maintain data orchestration and transformation workflows using Python and SQL.

  • Create and optimize data models in SQL to support efficient querying and reporting.

  • Build and enhance data tooling, supporting the team’s ability to process and analyze data effectively.

What you may have:

  • You have excellent computer science fundamentals around data structures, algorithms, programming languages, and SQL.

  • You have a natural curiosity and a drive to explore issues thoroughly, always asking “Why?”.

  • You communicate clearly and concisely, whether through text, voice, or in-person.

  • You are a rational, evidence-based thinker who makes decisions thoughtfully.

  • You have a collaborative mindset and readily step in to support teammates when they need assistance.

Serious bonus points if you have:

  • Data modeling, analytics, BI or data science experience.

  • Database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL).

  • Data warehouse experience (Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).

  • AWS experience.

  • Terraform experience.

  • Distributed systems experience.

The expected new hire base pay for this role is $56,000 CAD.
