Overview
The HR Data Analyst will be a member of the HR Technology team at Bio-Rad and is responsible for using a broad range of technologies, analytical techniques and methodologies to retrieve and analyze data from various sources to provide predictive insights and support business decision making. This position requires both strategic and analytical skills with proficiency for problem solving. This role will analyze Employee Central data and convert data into reporting metrics to be used across HR functions. The Data Analyst will possess a strong understanding of business intelligence development, with extensive experience in Power BI, Excel and working with data warehouses. The Data Analyst will work cross-functionally across HR business partners to support project life cycles, ad-hoc analysis, create thorough documentation and training, and future proofing the reporting experience.
How you'll make an impact:
Lead as the HR Power BI Subject Matter Expert:
- Applies and integrates advanced and predictive analysis, people metrics and reporting to develop strategic and operational insights for workforce decision-making (e.g., staffing, learning and development, talent management, diversity, human resource compliance, DEI, ESG)
- Recognizes business requirements in the context of BI and creates dynamic visual data models and reports to transform raw data into relevant business insights.
- Uses data analysis/modeling to create new Power BI Dashboards and other visual reports. Troubleshoots and modifies existing reports and dashboards. Provides data insights or references, filters, visualizations, etc. within reports to aid in decision making.
- Creates charts and data documentation with explanations of algorithms, parameters, models, and relationships.
- Creates, tests, and deploys Power BI scripts, as well as executes efficient deep analysis.
Provide Critical Business Support:
- Analyzes complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns and prepares ongoing reports and data visualizations (e.g., charts, dashboards, heat maps) in order to support business decisions.
- Proactively identifies methods for visual data improvement, suggests data element inclusions on reports, data risk mitigations, and other valuable business centric insights.
- Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required or available data elements. Supports business team in requirements gathering and converting business needs into technical specifications, identifying the most appropriate data solutions and establishing a timetable for job completion.
- Prioritizes short-term, long term, and immediate ad-hoc data analytic requests.
- Builds trust and rapport with internal and external business partners to ensure peak success for each project.
Collaborate Across the Matrix:
- Acts as the primary liaison between the HR Business Group and IT to ensure timely delivery of world-class products.
- Works with the data integration team to define and load data sources from multiple data warehouse systems.
- Collaborates with the ATOM/ Data Integration team to expand knowledge, application, and integration of data analysis use case, predictive analytics, and continuous improvement.
Ensure Data Continuity and Continuous Improvement:
- Maintains thorough documentation of internal processes/procedures and individual projects.
- Develops a library of standard best practice calculations related to HR data.
- Defines key performance indicators (KPIs) with specific objectives and tracks them regularly

- Knowledge of Power BI application security layer models
- Knowledge of database management, including diagnostics and resolution of database errors (1+ Year)
- Analytical thinking skills for converting data into relevant reports and graphics
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, customer service experience, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Technical Skills:
- Software: Fundamental knowledge of HRIS Systems such as Success Factors and other data gathering tools such as Qualtrics (or similar Survey Systems). Highly proficient skills in Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel (including advanced array formulas, VBA and macros), SAP (or similar complex ERP) and Project software. Expert skills in Jira (or similar application), Power BI, and Agile processes.
- Hardware: Moderate skill in troubleshooting moderately complex hardware problems.
- Project/Process Management: Expert ability to anticipate issues and think strategically. Expert ability to manage independently all phases of projects and initiatives. Expert Agile computing experience applying concepts and tools to track, and measure expected results. Expert time management and personal organizational skills.
Communication:
- Leads through engaging with others and conveying clear, compelling messages.
- Writing: Able to write persuasive arguments and concise explanations of complex technical topics.
- Presentations/Meetings: Able to make effective presentations to Senior Managers and Business staff meetings individually or in groups. Skilled at leading large meetings and facilitating the resolution of complex issues and decisions, leading global relationship building, and influencing executives.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related academic field or equivalent with an emphasis on business, information systems, or computer science required. Related Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
- 3+ years of technical data analysis experience with progressively increasing complexity
- 3+ years querying Snowflake, SQL, or similar data warehouses
- 3+ years direct experience developing end to end complex Power BI reports, data models, and visualizations
