As the Simulation Engineering Manager at Zoox, you will lead a team of experienced software engineers. Your key duties will include maintaining high standards for software quality, expanding the team, and setting long-term strategy. Your team will play a crucial role in integrating traffic and pedestrian behaviors into our simulator.
Simulation at Zoox is a fundamental part of the autonomous vehicle development process. Zoox uses simulation to develop our driving software, validate safety, and analyze real-world performance. Our team’s work directly impacts how rapidly and successfully Zoox will achieve its goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Directly manage a team of 5+ software engineers and support the growth of this team 
  • Build the systems that realistically move cars, pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, etc., around our simulated environments.
  • Push the state of the art in traffic and behavior modeling to capture real-world behaviors as closely as possible.
  • Develop and use metrics to define the operating capability of the simulated agents and to focus efforts on continuously improving realism.
  • Build strong relationships with teams — including AI, QA, and Validation Engineers — to drive joint efforts and push simulation testing forward. 

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience leading a team of software engineers in a related field
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Fluency in modern C++
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing and maintaining cross-functional roadmaps
  • Mathematics skills, including trigonometry and linear algebra

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in game development, traffic simulation, motion planning, or pathfinding
  • Experience in automotive, robotics, data science, or machine learning
  • Fluency with Python
CompensationThere are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary will range from $210,000 to $300,000. A sign-on bonus may be part of a compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  
Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
