Job Overview:
Coursera is an engineering-first company. Our teams are responsible for maintaining a scalable and reliable platform, in addition to building interactive products for the worldwide learner community. We are made up of teams ranging from Development Infrastructure, Growth, Learner/Consumer Experience, Content Platform, and SDET Engineering. Every day, Engineering teams collaborate with cross-functional partners, including other engineers, data scientists, and product managers. You must be comfortable working in a fast-moving team environment (we deploy many times a day!)
The Coach Platform team is responsible for building a set of reusable components that enable production-ready, configurable generative-AI-powered product experiences with a high degree of safety and confidence. Engineers on this team strike a balance between keeping up with the cutting edge of a rapidly evolving industry and designing SDKs and systems for maximum leverage and longevity. Decisions made every day in this team need to balance the needs of our client product teams and Coursera’s end users who will ultimately interact with these features.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams to understand their needs and come up with solutions that can enhance development and operation efficiency at scale.
- Work with architects and engineers to recommend, develop and review technical designs.
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of core service functionalities.
- Mentor and guide fellow remote-first engineers to help them improve their technical ability and become more effective software engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of experience working in relevant software engineering roles.
- Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full SDLC, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery, and maintenance.
- Expertise in designing highly scalable and performant microservices using Spring Boot.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen, inquisitive eye for detail along with a passion for high-quality standards.
- Experienced with and passionate about helping mentor more junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science.
- Experience working in an infrastructure/platform team.
- Hands-on experience with Gradle.

Compensation:
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base pay for this role is between $148,990 and $178,610. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is also eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
