Introduction
As a Data Scientist Intern at IBM, you will help transform our clients’ data into tangible business value by analyzing information, communicating outcomes and collaborating on product development. Work with Best in Class open source and visual tools, along with the most flexible and scalable deployment options. Whether it’s investigating patient trends or weather patterns, you will work to solve real world problems for the industries transforming how we live.

Your Role and Responsibilities
  • Automation: Develop and maintain Python scripting solutions to automate data collection, processing, and analysis tasks, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Data Science: Collaborate with teams to construct usable data sets from various structured and unstructured sources, enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Software Development: Contribute to software development projects, utilizing your strong fundamentals in computer science to design and implement solutions for complex technical challenges.
  • Problem-Solving: Approach technical issues creatively, employing debugging and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve problems effectively.
  • Communication: Work collaboratively within a team, demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts and solutions clearly.
  • Applying data engineering techniques to gather, prepare, cleanse, and transform data for analysis, automation, and AI.
  • Data Modelling: Apply basic understanding or experience with predictive/prescriptive modelling techniques to derive insights from data.
  • Agile Development: Embrace Agile Development Methodologies and Design Thinking principles to drive innovation and streamline project delivery.
  • Cloud Integration: Develop a basic understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, etc., and explore opportunities to leverage cloud services for analytics and data processing


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent technical degree/experience.
  • You are great at solving problems, debugging, troubleshooting, and designing & implementing solutions to complex technical issues.
  • Strong technical and analytical abilities, a knack for driving impact and growth, and some experience with programming/scripting in a language such as Python or Java
  • Understanding of statistical programming in a language such as Python, R or SAS.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset; current on technical growth in the data science space
  • Familiarity constructing usable data sets from multiple structured and unstructured data sources.
  • You thrive on teamwork using excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding or experience with predictive/prescriptive modeling skills
  • You have an interest in, understanding of, or experience with Design Thinking and Agile Development Methodologies
  • You have a basic understanding of Cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.)


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
