Research Assistant Professor in Geography (23241097)
The Academy of Geography, Sociology and International Studies offers a vibrant and collegial academic environment for research and teaching. The Academy has academic/teaching colleagues specialised in different fields of geography studies and from diversified cultural backgrounds The Academy places a strong emphasis on high-quality and impactful research, particularly on research that informs social and environmental policies and advances knowledge in and beyond the discipline.
The Academy is now recruiting a Research Assistant Professor with experience in conducting interdisciplinary research in at least one of the following areas:
- Air quality and atmospheric chemistry modeling;
- Chemistry-climate interactions;
- Greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions;
- Carbon-climate feedback, and
- Satellite observation of GHGs and applications.
The appointee will be expected to play an important role in teaching and developing courses in one or more of the mentioned areas. Expertise in qualitative and mixed research methods, chemistry-climate model development, machine learning and big data analysis, or related inter-/trans-disciplinary research will be advantageous.
Requirements:
- A PhD degree in atmospheric science, earth science, computer science, or closely related fields;
- Experience with numerical 3D air quality models or climate models;
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for modeling (Fortran) and data analytics (MATLAB, Python, R, or NCL);
- Strong oral and written communication skills, evidenced by their publication record and presentations at scientific meetings; and
- Preference will be given to those who have experience in university-level teaching
Additionally, they must demonstrate a commitment to administrative duties including organising and undertaking local, mainland, and international programme-related outreach initiatives.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of one year. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
