About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Data Engineer Contractor to join a greenfield project focused on building a state-of-the-art data platform in Azure Databricks. As a senior member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the data strategy, driving architecture decisions, and delivering impactful solutions for our customers. You'll work closely with clients to understand their challenges, lead solution design sessions, and ensure the successful delivery of cutting-edge data platforms.

This role requires someone who is not only an expert in data engineering but also experienced in dbt, data modelling, and DataOps. You will be responsible for building scalable, performant data pipelines, establishing technical standards, and mentoring junior engineers. As a senior leader, you’ll work collaboratively with both internal teams and clients, ensuring that the solutions we build meet high-quality standards and deliver measurable business value.

What Your Day Will Look Like:

• Advising clients on data challenges and designing tailored data solutions to meet their business needs.
• Leading and facilitating solution design sessions, contributing to high-level architecture and data platform decisions.
• Building and optimising data pipelines in Azure Databricks with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Utilising dbt to develop robust data models and transform data at scale.
• Implementing DataOps frameworks with automated testing, and CI/CD pipeline deployments through Azure DevOps.
• Setting technical standards and best practices for data engineering, ensuring consistency across customer engagements.
• Providing hands-on technical leadership and mentoring to both internal teams and clients.
• Collaborating with marketing to create external-facing content, including reports, blogs, and thought leadership pieces.
• Sharing knowledge and insights through public speaking, meetups, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of delivering data solutions.
• Expertise in Azure Databricks, including building data pipelines and working with cloud-based data platforms (Azure is a must).
• Strong proficiency in DBT and data modelling, with experience designing and implementing scalable and maintainable data models.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IAC), specifically using Terraform, to automate the provisioning and management of cloud infrastructure.
• A deep understanding of data engineering, data science, machine learning, and AI practices, with hands-on experience in as many areas as possible.
• Solid knowledge of modern data architectures and methodologies, such as ELT, Data Lakes, and Data Warehousing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A passion for mentoring, knowledge sharing, and promoting technical excellence within teams.
