Your Opportunity
BDO’s Client & Market Intelligence practice and its services are designed to listen, analyze, and package objective market data and client insight—across several key industries and macroeconomic trends—to complement BDO’s business strategy, pursuit, and delivery efforts.
Based in the GTA, the role of the Strategy & Research Data Engineer is to provide expertise in building and maintaining data infrastructure and pipelines that support advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven insights. You’ll work to ensure data quality, accessibility, and scalability, enabling efficient data flow across various teams in our practice.
Additionally, you will contribute to the implementation of A.I.-driven technologies by supporting clean and reliable data architecture, allowing data scientists and analysts to innovate with cutting-edge tools and techniques. You’ll be part of a collaborative team of data scientists, researchers, and technical specialists, equipped with the resources to develop transformative data solutions.
The Strategy & Research Data Engineer reports into the Client & Market Intelligence Lead.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines to support analytics and business intelligence efforts.
- Ensure high data quality through data cleaning, validation, and transformation processes.
- Develop scalable data architectures that optimize data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
- Support advanced analytics projects by integrating and structuring diverse data sources.
- Work closely with data scientists to prepare datasets for modeling, ensuring data is accessible and organized.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data needs and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Document data workflows and maintain data management protocols to ensure best practices.
- Implement data security and governance practices, protecting data privacy and integrity.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance to ensure continuous operation and timely data delivery.
- Actively participate in strategic data planning sessions, bringing a technical perspective to data-related initiatives.

Your Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
- 1-2+ years of experience (Co-op included) in data engineering, with a strong foundation in ETL, data warehousing, and data pipeline creation.
- Proficient in SQL and Python for data manipulation and pipeline automation.
- Experience with cloud platforms (primarily Azure) and big data technologies.
- Strong familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI, assisting in data accessibility for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex data engineering projects.
- Excellent communication skills for translating technical data concepts to business audiences.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, meeting project deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
- Team-oriented with solid interpersonal skills, capable of thriving in collaborative settings.
- A continuous improvement mindset, committed to staying current with evolving data engineering trends.
