Data Engineer

How does this role contribute to our collective success?

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic data team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure, including on-prem  SQL Server databases, data warehouses, and Azure-based solutions. You will play a key role in data modelling, ETL development, and supporting data analytics through platforms such as Databricks and Azure Data Factory as we start a new journey to modernise our data platforms. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical background in data engineering, a solid understanding of cloud and on-prem environments, and hands-on experience with data integration and transformation tools.

What will you do in this role?

 Data Warehouse Development & Maintenance:

  • Design, implement, and optimize data warehouses to support business intelligence and analytics requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines to ensure efficient and reliable data transfer between systems.

  

Data Modelling

  • Design and maintain data models that support business reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and create both logical and physical data models.

ETL Development

  • Build and maintain ETL processes using Azure Data Factory and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Create, monitor, and troubleshoot data ingestion and transformation processes to ensure data accuracy and timeliness.

Azure Implementation

  • Utilize Azure Data Factory to orchestrate data workflows, integrate data from multiple sources, and manage data movement across on-prem and cloud environments.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Document data workflows, architecture, and processes for transparency and knowledge sharing.
  • Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, Architecture, Data Quality, Data Governance and IT teams to support data-driven decision-making.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.   

About You:

What you need to have:

  • Proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and database management.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Data Factory and other Azure data services including Python or Spark SQL
  • Hands-on experience in data warehousing and data modelling.
  • CI/CD Devops code management and deployment
  • Databricks experience a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving data issues.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to time manage and work across different priorities.
  • P & C Insurance industry experience required.

What we prefer you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar data-focused role.
  • Proven experience with on-premise SQL Server databases, including database design, optimization, and management.
  • Hands-on experience in data warehousing and data modelling.

Role Factors:

Be in the office at least 2 days per week
