2025 Summer Intern, MS/PhD, Perception - Traffic Control Understanding

Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. This internship will be based on-site at our headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

You will:

• Work on an exciting machine learning project: develop data mining, labeling, training and evaluation pipelines for autonomous driving systems
• Apply machine learning techniques to build computer vision application
• Collaborate effectively with product area owners and other engineers to understand and deliver product requirements
• Code in Python / C++

You have:

• Pursuing a Masters or PhD program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a similar technical field of study
• Experience with machine learning / deep learning / computer vision
• Strong programming skill in Python

We prefer:

• Experience programming with C++
• Strong track record of high quality research in machine learning
• Experience with multi-modality and multi-task models
• Large-scale data processing and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills
