About This Opportunity

The National Imaging Facility (NIF) is an Australia wide collaborative network of world-class imaging infrastructure, providing open access to flagship imaging equipment, expertise, tools, data and analysis. NIF addresses Australia’s strategic science and research priorities, and this benefits Australian industry and helps keep Australians healthy.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Fellow with experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) image acquisition, processing and analysis. The primary purpose of this role is to coordinate and participate in research programs at the Queensland node of NIF, located at the Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI) within the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) and the Herston Imaging Research Facility (HIRF).

You will be expected to provide image acquisition, processing and analysis expertise on a collaborative and consultative basis to both local and external users of the NIF facilities. Additionally, the role involves facilitating access to UQ and national computational facilities for NIF users, as well as promoting NIF activities to the international, national, and institutional scientific communities.

This position offers you the opportunity to develop an independent research profile in the area of AI-driven imaging and will be integral to imaging project planning and data analysis research activities at the UQ node. The role reports to the Co-Director of the NIF Queensland Node, Lena Oestreich. This role provides an excellent opportunity to further develop your expertise and establish an emerging research profile within the discipline of imaging.

The opportunity is open to an experienced Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A), Research Fellow (Level B) or a Senior Research Fellow (Level C).

Depending on experience, key responsibilities will include:

At Academic Level A, B, C

  • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

At Academic Level B, C only

  • Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.

This will be a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance
