The Center for Workforce Research and Information (CWRI) manages the programs that provide the most important information on labor market conditions and trends in Maine. These programs inform the public about labor force and unemployment, and jobs and wages among industries and occupations, for the state and its areas.  This position coordinates our public delivery of information on the web, including creating and managing interactive data dashboards. Drupal is currently the primary website management tool, and business intelligence applications, including Tableau and Power BI, as well as spreadsheets and other documents, are primary data organization tools. Successful performance requires familiarity with building, editing, and managing applications; ensuring compliance with evolving accessibility standards; querying, and formatting data; documenting procedures and definitions; collaborating with partners on requirements and processes; and integration of data from multiple sources to respond to information requests. This position also supports production needs for some of our data production programs. 

Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Manage website and client facing dashboards.
  • Develop new data products.
  • Determine methods for displaying visualizations.
  • Ensure compliance with Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and other accessibility standards.
  • Test for data quality and accuracy prior to public dissemination.
  • Train other team members supporting our web operations.
  • Document procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrate web resources to partners and other users.
  • Respond to data requests with accurate information and context. This may include custom report programming.
  • Classify employer Unemployment Insurance (UI) accounts by industry and area. This involves researching the nature of a business from public information or from direct contact.

  • Adherence to confidentiality requirements governing microdata.
  • Understanding of statistical methods.
  • Ability to discern larger context in patterns observed in data.

Minimum qualifications:

Intermediate to advanced education, training, and/or experience in data analysis, data collection, data production, labor statistics, economics, or another related field with demonstrated experience in a role working with data and providing mentorship. 

Preference will be given to those applicants:

With experience in Tableau, Power BI, Drupal or similar applications; SQL, R or related programming languages; project management; and incorporating accessibility standards in public facing resources.
