Principal Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer (RGG Services, Inc., Boston, Massachusetts): The Principal BI Engineer will play a pivotal role in enabling decision makers to leverage and understand the actions of millions of users and brand partners. They will do so by working at the intersection of data, design, and analysis to develop and interpret information that assists management with decision making.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Take the lead in building and maintaining a relationship with internal customers of all levels and Product Managers to identify data and visualizations requirements to help monitor performance and discover new areas of innovation.
  • Provide feedback into the design and development work of several Business Intelligence projects of all sizes and independently manage development efforts of extreme size and complexity.
  • Display mastery of Business Intelligence engineering techniques.
  • Function as a thought leader who leads technical initiatives and mentor engineers on the team.
  • Design, develop, and distribute elegant and concise dashboards using Tableau to be consumed across the enterprise.
  • Identify and understand the data needed to extract, transform, and load data into the data warehouse in a clean, usable format using SQL queries for Oracle and Snowflake databases.
  • Use existing python-based code along with SQL to clean data and transfer to the databases.
  • Serve as point person for governing datasets for correctness and completeness as well as troubleshooting data inconsistencies across data sources.
  • Develop and provide intelligent and clear solutions to ad hoc business problems.
  • Collaborate with others in the organization to ensure successful implementation of software deployments that affect their analytical needs.
  • Function as an advocate for data visualizations and self-service analytics across 400+ users in our analytics community.
  • Work directly with our data architect to introduce and implement the latest tools in technology to take our analytics team to the next level while using best practices and efficiencies.
  • Lead and mentor co-ops and juniors on the team to help them learn technically as well as grow professionally.
  • Present results of data analysis to decision makers that may not be technically versed.

Work location:

This is a hybrid position working from the Boston, MA office and from a home office within normal commuting distance to the Boston, MA office.

  • Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a closely related analytical field and 3 years of experience in a data analytics occupation creating data visualizations or building datasets in Tableau or similar tools.
  • Alternate Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a closely related analytical field and 5 years of experience in a data analytics occupation creating data visualizations or building datasets in Tableau or similar tools.

Must also have: (1) Hands on experience creating data visualizations in Tableau; (2) Demonstrated understanding in utilizing Tableau features and performance tradeoff including Level of Detail (LOD) calculations, blending, joins, and others; (3) Demonstrated ability to write complex SQL queries to explore and review quality assurance of data; (4) Strong understanding of cloud stack technologies including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar; (5) Demonstrated familiarity with different coding languages including R, Python, or SAS; (6) Strong knowledge of data warehousing fundamentals; (7) Experience with Extract, Transform and Load (ETL/ ELT) data including snowflake, Oracle, BigQuery, or other databases; (8) Coursework in Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Probability, Computer Science, and other quantitative principles; (9) Robust analytical skills including a track record demonstrating an ability to work with large datasets, analyzing profitability metrics, identifying underlying issues, and being a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.; and Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively to users with different backgrounds and technical skills, including senior leadership.

Salary: $149,000 - $159,000
