THE JOB

Ticketmaster is looking for an experienced, motivated, dynamic Director of Data Engineering to lead our high performing team of accomplished data engineers in developing modern data products solving complex problems and driving technical innovation.

As a Director of Data Engineering, you will be responsible for providing hands-on leadership to the team, defining technical vision towards building high performance fault tolerant data and analytics products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building real-time data products along with utilizing modern data technologies and practices. As a key leader you will collaborate cross functionally with PMO, product and business team to ensure success of our data initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • As a director of engineering by leading a team of high performing data engineers to build a scalable data and analytics platform.
  • You will recruit, manage, mentor and lead global team of data engineers.
  • Lead efforts to optimize data queries, real time data streams and overall system performance on Databricks and other data and streaming systems.
  • Drive initiatives to lower overall costs associated with data products.
  • Manage cross team dependencies and work with tech leads on solutions.
  • Set performance metrics and expectation conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
  • Identify skills and gaps and training needs within the team to create appropriate development plans.
  • Form strong functional relationships with product and business stakeholders to delivery solution to drive business value.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment, ensuring equal opportunities for all team members.
  • Promote and build a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, trust and autonomy.
  • Work with product teams to gather and understand requirements, discuss approaches, design solutions based on the requirements and create design documents for implementation keeping in mind costs, capacity, shelf-life and choosing the right tools and technologies.
  • Ensure best practices in data governance, security and compliance (GDPR, CCPA) managing data quality, lineage and security.
  • Oversee design, development and maintenance of scalable data engineering infrastructure, ensuring scalability performance and reliability.
  • Establish and promote best practices, standards and documentation to ensure reliability and maintainability of data products.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES)

Need to know / be able to do

  • Proven 10 + years of experience in engineering with strong emphasis on building complex real time streaming data products.
  • 5 + years of management experience, including mentoring and team leadership.
  • Strong experience with cloud databases along with Python and SQL.
  • Strong experience building real time data applications using streaming platform such as Kafka, Spark streaming, Apache Flink or AWS SQS is preferred.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies such as Apache Spark or Hadoop.
  • Understanding and knowledge on creating modern data products by building data lakes, data mesh and using systems like Databricks.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, version control systems (Gitlab), CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in working with cloud-based platforms (preferably AWS) and understanding of IAAC frameworks.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, as well as leading and developing high performing team.
  • Must have deep understanding of engineering principles, strong managerial skills and ability to drive innovation and operational excellence.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g. SOX) is a plus
  • Extensive experience across multiple technologies governance frameworks, data security and data platforms.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams in a geographically and culturally diverse environment.
  • Experience and understanding of modern observability platform and standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or related field  
  • Experience working in Agile development environments and using tools such as Jira and confluence.
