Job Description
The Executive: Data Technology & Data Management oversees and guides Old Mutual’s data strategy and analytics functions. Their responsibilities include leading the strategy, design and conceptual framework for Old Mutual’s data landscape, which is linked to data-driven value delivery; establishing and ensuring embedding of organisation-wide data management standards; as well as identifying, building and scaling the relevant data and analytics talent pool critical for value delivery.The incumbent will be individually accountable for achieving results through own team and by collaborating with others within the Organisation and the broader OML Group over periods of 1-2 years.
- Data and analytics strategy – Formulate and oversee the execution of a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with Old Mutual’s organisational goals and drives business value. Establish and oversee data governance frameworks and policies to ensure data integrity, quality and compliance with regulations.
- Data management and infrastructure – Design and maintain robust data architectures, including data warehouses, lakes and integration platforms to support business needs. Manage the infrastructure for data storage, processing and analytics, ensuring scalability, performance and reliability.
- Analytics and business intelligence – Develop and implement analytics strategies to leverage data for insights, forecasting and decision-making. Oversee the deployment and use of business intelligence (BI) tools and dashboards to provide actionable insights and drive data-driven decisions.
- Data quality and integration – Implement practices and tools to ensure high data quality, including accuracy, consistency and completeness. Oversee the integration of data from various sources and systems to create a unified view for analysis and reporting.
- Agile software development frameworks and implementation – Demonstrate an understanding of Agile frameworks (e.g. Scrum, SAFe, LeSS) including their principles, roles, ceremonies and artifacts. Be able to articulate the differences and benefits of each framework and apply them to different project scenarios.
- Evaluate emerging technology and trends – Identify opportunities for technology-driven improvements to enhance data and analytics productivity and performance. Explore and pilot innovative technologies and solutions that can provide a competitive advantage or significantly improve data and analytics capabilities.
- Stakeholder and team collaboration – Build trust through strong delivery and product management practices for engaging within teams and stakeholders.
- Leadership and mentorship – Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to various levels within Data and Analytics teams.
- Maintaining Balance: Effectively balances personal priorities with the responsibility of directing and motivating team members, ensuring that individual and team objectives are aligned with organizational goals.
- Work Planning and Assignment: Develops comprehensive plans and assigns tasks strategically, considering individual strengths and workload capacity to optimize team productivity and efficiency.
- Guidance and Direction: Provides clear guidance and direction to team members, empowering them to achieve operational excellence standards while fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.
- Performance Optimization: Cultivates a climate conducive to optimal performance by fostering open communication, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing and celebrating team achievements to motivate and inspire continuous improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED FOR THE JOB)
Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field. An Honours or Master's Degree is preferred.
- Agile certification from a recognised institution is advantageous

- 10+ years of experience in data and analytics or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role
