Job Description

Omio is seeking a Head of Artificial Intelligence to lead our artificial intelligence initiatives. This role is instrumental in driving innovation by applying cutting-edge AI solutions to enhance our products and optimize internal systems. You will oversee the development of AI strategies, manage AI/ML models, and guide cross-functional teams to implement AI-driven solutions that align with our business objectives.

Omio views AI and the power of technology to be a seismic shift in the technology landscape, the same as what happened with operating systems, smartphones, and the internet itself. We want to be at the forefront of this. Today, Omio has the largest inventory for ground transportation globally. With its supply network across 10,000 + transport companies and two operating brands Rome2Rio and Omio, we collect >400 TB of data monthly. Using this data to create unique and unseen applications using Gen AI will be powerful. We believe 80% of all of Omio should be AI-based within the next year. We want the Head of AI to champion this internally!

AI Strategy & Vision

• Define and lead the AI strategy, identifying key areas where AI can be applied to drive product innovation and improve business operations.
• Collaborate with leadership to integrate AI initiatives with the overall business strategy.
   

AI Development & Deployment

• Develop, train, and deploy machine learning (ML) models to enhance product functionality, personalization, automation, and scalability.
• Lead the integration of AI tools into internal processes to improve efficiency (e.g., automating decision-making, optimizing workflows, enhancing data analysis).
   

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Build and lead a high-performing AI team, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and data science, to define AI-driven product features.
• Ensure clear communication of AI initiatives to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex concepts into actionable insights.

Research & Innovation

• Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and academic advancements in AI and ML.
• Drive research and experimentation, exploring new algorithms, models, and approaches to AI/ML applications.
• Encourage innovation, including testing of new AI methodologies and technologies.
   

Data Management & Ethics

• Oversee the collection, storage, and management of large datasets for training and testing AI models.
• Ensure ethical AI development, maintaining transparency, fairness, and compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
   

Performance & Scalability

• Develop scalable AI solutions that can be integrated into our products and infrastructure.
• Monitor and optimize the performance of AI models, ensuring continuous improvement through feedback loops and model retraining.
   

Budget & Resource Management

• Manage the AI budget, ensuring resource allocation aligns with strategic priorities.
• Evaluate and engage with external partners, vendors, and tools to support the company’s AI initiatives.

Qualifications

Education Background:

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.

Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of AI/ML algorithms, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, and related technologies.
• 8+ years of experience in AI/ML roles, with a proven track record of deploying AI solutions at scale.
• Previous experience leading AI projects and teams in a startup, tech company, or research institution.
• Demonstrated ability to apply AI across multiple domains, including product development and business process automation.
• Experience with AI platforms, frameworks, and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc.
   

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in Python, R, or other relevant programming languages.
• Proficient in data science and AI techniques (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, neural networks).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for AI deployment.
   

Leadership & Communication:

• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to inspire a technical team.
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, balancing long-term strategy with hands-on implementation.
