Position Summary

The Systems Engineering Department at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Denver is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic instructor to join our team and teach the principles and practices of Fault Diagnosis and Prognosis Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality instructional materials and providing hands-on training to equip students with the necessary skills to excel in this field.

Teaching Schedule

Winter Quarter runs from January to March  (approximately)

Essential Functions 

Curriculum Development

  • Develop comprehensive and up-to-date curriculum materials covering the key concepts of fault diagnosis and prognosis, encompassing theoretical foundations, practical applications, and industry best practices.
  • Design engaging lectures to foster a deep understanding of the subject matter.
  • Incorporate real-world case studies and industry examples to illustrate the practical relevance of fault diagnosis and prognosis techniques.

Instructional Delivery

  • Deliver engaging and informative lectures that clearly explain complex technical concepts.
  • Facilitate interactive discussions and encourage student participation to promote active learning.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students on their assignments, projects, and laboratory work.

Mentorship and Support

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students, helping them to develop their skills and achieve their learning objectives.
  • Offer support to students outside of class time, answering questions, providing clarifications, and addressing individual needs.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Develop and administer fair and comprehensive assessments to evaluate student learning and progress.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in signal processing, control systems, machine learning, and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Experience with data mining, machine learning, and statistical modeling techniques.
  • Knowledge of fault diagnosis and prognosis methodologies, including model-based, data-driven, and hybrid approaches.
  • Teaching Experience: Prior experience in teaching or training, demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of domain-specific engineering systems and their failure mechanisms.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and big data technologies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to reliability and maintenance

Work Schedule

While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Course Rate

This role will be compensated at a rate of $9,318.00 for lecture and $5,300.00 for course development for Winter Quarter.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status
