Position Summary:

We are looking for a Viticulture & Precision Agriculture Specialist to join our National Grape team. In this role, you'll use precision agriculture tools (hardware & software) to facilitate data collection, analysis, and execution. You'll work to enhance profitability, reduce risk, and identify opportunities for growth for both the cooperative and our grower-owners.

As Welch's and National Grape Cooperative implement a digital transformation, we're looking for talent with robust knowledge in precision agriculture, data analysis, prescription mapping, reporting, and problem solving. As part of our team, you'll support the design, build, implementation, training, and continual development of precision agriculture tools and resources for viticulture.

Where You'll Work

This role will be based out of our Westfield, NY National Grape Cooperative headquarters where you will be immersed in a dynamic workplace where innovation thrives, and collaboration is key. You'll collaborate with the extended National teams located in Berrien Springs, MI and Grandview, WA.

What You'll Do:

  • Understand, collect, and leverage data using technology to enhance business results and meet key objectives
  • Focus on key areas including sustainability, traceability, crop estimation, and crop forecasting
  • Support production practices related to Nutrition, irrigation, pest management, yield tracking and variable rate applications
  • Collaborate with staff and growers to enhance the understanding and adoption of best practices
  • Provide ongoing support for precision technologies to drive efficiency and improve outcomes
  • Through curiosity, data science, and technology you'll identify opportunities to leverage data and improve economic, competitive, and operational value from dirt to doorstep
  • Support collection, processing, and interpretation of data for crop/farm management use by both company and grower-owner stakeholders
  • Work with the viticulture team to deliver grower relations, crop management, and harvest objectives with operational excellence
  • Support education, training, and implementation of technology to achieve SGP and digital transformation (OPTIMUS) objectives

Who You Are:

  • Proficient in agronomic/viticultural principles and practices
  • Proficient in Precision Ag principles, solutions, hardware and software
  • Knowledge in data analysis, model building, statistical analysis, (machine learning not required but considered a plus)
  • Comfortable presenting to both small and large groups, as well as engaging in one-on-one interactions with growers.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to lead both independently and within a team. Comfortable taking on leadership roles and collaborating effectively with team members.
  • Able to work through challenging situations and resolve conflicts quickly and effectively
  • Work relentlessly to overachieve, anticipate obstacles, and create plans to overcome them. Sets stretch goals and plans to achieve them
  • Engage in healthy dialogue and make decisions with the cooperative's best interest in mind
  • Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions and extend hours during harvest

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in: Agriculture, Precision/Digital Agriculture, or related field(s)
  • 2+ years of experience in Viticulture/Agriculture/Precision Ag
  • Proven experience and proficiency in precision ag systems (hardware & software)
  • Proficiency with: MS office, Access, SharePoint, ERSI ArcGIS
  • Knowledge in model building, data/statistical analysis, spatial data, programing languages (Python, R, SQL, etc) - not required but considered a plus
  • Valid driver's license
  • Current or ability to acquire: Pesticide Applicators Certification (NY or PA), FAA Remote Pilot Certification
