Department Overview

Sitting within Rakuten Payment’s System Division, the System Strategy Office (SSO) plays a crucial role in this. We focus on developing the next Payment platforms that will become the foundation of Japan’s social infrastructure to support users’ daily lives now and into the future.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to help drive progress for our key initiatives.

Position Details

- Design, build, and maintain the infrastructure and systems needed to process, store, and analyze data.

- Contribute to development and growth of the Payment Data Platform.

- Support Data Science team to enable reliable and secure access to the data.

-Automate the movement and transformation of data.

- Contribute actively to the technical discussions. 

-Focus on clarity, robustness, security and ease of use. 

 

Work Environment

Technical Stack:  

- Public Cloud: GCP, Azure. 

-Data stores: MySQL, MariaDB, ETCD, Redis, InfluxDB.

- Container orchestration: Kubernetes. 

- Data platform tools: Kafka, Redpanda, Debezium.

- Observability: ElasticSearch, Grafana.

 

Mandatory Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field. 

- Hands-on experience with building and managing scalable ETL data pipelines.

- Experience integrating data from various sources (APIs, third-party services, flat files, databases).

- Experience with Public Cloud (preferably Azure and/or GCP).

- Proficiency in SQL database design.

- Understanding of application/system security.

- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams such as data scientists, business analysts, and software engineers.

- Excitement to work in a multicultural, international working environment.

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Hands-on experience with data pipelining, message brokers (Kafka, Redpanda, etc.).

- Experience with visual design for the

presentation of data.

- Experience in other technical roles such as software engineer, data analyst, data engineer, data scientist.

- Experience developing software using modern languages and practices.

- Interest in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and/or similar areas.
