Get to know the role:

The role is responsible for assessing, managing and mitigating the risks associated with lending activities. This role involves developing and implementing credit risk policies and procedures, analyzing credit data and financial information to determine risk levels, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and update credit risk policies and procedures to align with regulatory guidelines and the institution’s risk management framework.

  • Regularly review and adjust credit risk policies in response to analysis, market conditions and regulatory changes.

  • Ensure policies are effectively embedded in the processes and technology solutions.

  • Collaborate with Collections, data analysts and various departments, including Data Scientists, business and product development, to ensure a comprehensive approach to credit risk management.

  • Develop strategies to ensure the portfolio is operating within the approved Risk Appetite and take management action to shape the portfolio to the desired optimal level.

  • Provide inputs on test scenarios and using outcomes, provide recommendations to changes in underwriting parameter settings as well as changes in policies.

  • Ensure processes incorporate all mandatory regulatory and policy requirements.

  • For mandatory or regulatory-related requirements, develop and implement assurance checks. Incorporate any new assurance checks into management reporting.

  • Implement or work with relevant stakeholders to put in corrective actions for identified issues.

  • Conduct regular portfolio performance analyses including limit utilization and to identify segments for credit limit review.

  • Perform analyses to identify risks and propose solutions, such as strengthening controls or adjusting underwriting rules.

  • Identify trends and emerging risks and to take actions to mitigate or reduce or escalate the risks to appropriate authority.

  • Keep track of market trends and the macroeconomic outlook (e.g. bankruptcy rates), and assess the potential  impact on the portfolio.

  • Maintain close contact with the credit bureau on market trends.

  • Design, build, implement and prepare credit risk portfolio monitoring reports. Continue to maintain / enhance the reports.

  • Continuously monitor the Retail Credit portfolio performance, delinquencies, and collaborate with the Collections team to address issues.

  • Monitor performance against Risk Appetite. Where needed, recommend appropriate actions to keep the Bank within its Risk Appetite.

  • Escalation / Escalate issues and risks to appropriate authority (such as the Management Risk Committee).

  • Tech / Work with Technology teams to ensure Risk-related requirements are correctly implemented in the Bank’s technology solutions. This entails providing detailed user requirements, and conducting user acceptance testing.

  • Tech / Design, build, implement, review and enhance underwriting rules based on analysis to mitigate risk and to reduce credit losses.

  • Operational / Perform investigations on customer complaints for credit risk related matters including CBS reporting.

  • Support ad hoc tasks e.g. drafting responses to regulatory queries, responses to statutory auditors.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in finance, business, economics, engineering or an equivalent area.

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledgeable of regulatory requirements (e.g. MAS Notice 612, MAS Notice 635, Credit Card / Charge Card Regulations 2013). 

  • Experience in banking, retail credit products and credit policy including underwriting.

  • Familiar with Credit Bureau Singapore reporting. 

  • Knowledgeable about retail product processes relating to credit and operational risk.

  • Experience in portfolio management and take management action to shape portfolio to align with the Bank’s Risk Appetite.

  • Proficiency in machine learning frameworks, Python and SQL preferred

  • An enthusiastic team player who can figure it out, get stuff done, have fun and is excellent in communication and stakeholder management.
