Senior Data and AI Governance Analyst

The opportunity

Join our team as a Senior Data & AI Governance Analyst where you’ll play a pivotal role in elevating maturity in the management of data, and fostering a culture of responsible use of data and artificial intelligence across QBE. This role is ideal for a data governance expert with a strong background in regulatory compliance, policy formulation, and governance process design, ready to engage with business leaders, drive policy adoption, and ensure consistent application of data standards.

Your new role:

In this role you will work closely with the Data and AI Governance Manager, senior management and data stewards across all business units to drive the development and adoption of policy and governance processes, policy formation, awareness and education to drive cultural change and quantify data management effectiveness.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the Governance manager to implement policies and processes to improve the business understanding of data across QBE
  • Play a key role in developing and embedding clear guidelines, rules, and standards for data usage and the development and deployment of AI through governance frameworks.
  • Partner with internal customers to identify business objectives and support initiatives to improve business handling of data.
  • Facilitate and support the Data Stewards network of business and technical data stewards.
  • Provide insight on the impact of regulatory and operational change on data management requirements.
  • Drive cultural change into all parts of the organisation.
  • Develop and implement techniques to measure the effectiveness of data management and data governance measures.
  • Keeps abreast of developments, trends and best practices in data governance and management.

Your story so far

To succeed, you’ll need a strong grasp of data management, end-to-end processes, and data analysis tools, along with the ability to drive continuous improvement and collaboration.

Required skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of data stewardship principles and practices, including data ownership, data classification, metadata management, data quality management and data steward roles and responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders, data stewards and other teams on data principles, governance practices and impactful in driving cultural change.
  • Strong understanding of disciplines of risk management, compliance, audit and corporate governance, and how their responsibilities manifest in governance processes.
  • Familiarity with regulations such as APRA’s CPG235, CPS234, BCBS239 and the Australian Privacy Act.
  • Strong business acumen to understand QBE’s businesses and how data governance aligns and can be used to support the same.
  • Experience in the insurance industry and international regulations for data and AI will be a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to the evolving data management needs and requirements and keep abreast with changing principles and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with others to establish and enforce data governance policies and promote cultural change.
