Introduction
As a Data Scientist at IBM, you will help transform our clients’ data into tangible business value by analyzing information, communicating outcomes and collaborating on product development. Work with Best in Class open source and visual tools, along with the most flexible and scalable deployment options. Whether it’s investigating patient trends or weather patterns, you will work to solve real world problems for the industries transforming how we live.

Your Role and Responsibilities
This position resides in Markham and is a 8-month work term commencing in January 2024. It is mandatory that all applicants are enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work-term.

As a Data Scientist, you will be at the leading edge of applying data science and AI. You will also develop data-driven applications by building data science pipelines, deploying machine learning models, and exploring new frameworks for data science and AI. Most importantly, you will be democratizing access to data science and artificial intelligence skills by creating instructional content to teach others. Data Science has been described as the hottest profession of the 21st century and demand for our courses and labs is a great testament to this fact. The role of the Skills Network Data Scientist is to create compelling and engaging content to maintain and increase IBM momentum in the AI field.

IBM Developer Skills Network is part of the Developer Ecosystem Group. We engage closely with all business units of IBM, academic institutions, and customers large and small. As part of our open source mission, we work closely with various open source communities as both contributors and users. We containerize and orchestrate at scale. We apply machine learning, AI, and blockchain. We do cool things on mobile. We dabble in Golang, Elixir, and everything else that’s cool and new. We care about your passion and competence, not the number of years.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Python programming language.
  • Interest in AI/LLM/Generative AI.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to work 8 months starting in January 2025


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • R programming language;
  • One of data visualization, data cleaning, machine learning, deep learning, visual recognition, text mining, or NLP;
  • Ability to summarize complex subjects simply;
  • Ability to express yourself equally well in conversation and in writing;
  • SQL;
  • Git.
