YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED? 

WSP is looking for an experienced Data Engineer/Developer to join our industry-leading Intelligent Infrastructure team.  We provide technical professional services to transport clients throughout the UK and overseas to deliver tangible value for through technology enabled change.

Join our Intelligent Infrastructure discipline and make a real-world difference by helping to deliver crucial projects for public sector clients, which include examples from using big data to help the DfT provide better rail services, to helping road safety officers visualise accident data geospatially, or gathering vital transport planning data using AI-enabled traffic cameras that distinguish and count the different modes of transport.

As a WSP Data Engineer/Developer, you will play a key role in technical delivery while also leading tasks within a team to provide quality assurance, consultancy, and advisory services on client-facing projects. YOUR TEAM

  • This role sits within the Intelligent Infrastructure business and will form a key part of the growing Data, Architecture and Solutions Capability, which is our centre of excellence for digital skills. The Capability team provides a community of colleagues working in and around technology to help you deliver effectively and support your professional development through training, mentoring and opportunities to really stretch your capabilities. 
  • You’ll work as part of an Agile team with specialist developers, testers and analysts to design, develop, deliver and maintain software applications and systems using the latest technologies, helping to make people’s journeys greener, safer, cheaper, and faster to deliver innovative solutions across the property and infrastructure sectors. 
  • We operate a hybrid working policy and expect colleagues to spend time on client sites and collaborating with colleagues face-to-face, as well as working from a local office. We have offices across the UK.

YOUR ROLE

  • Act as a technical lead during client engagements, providing credible insights and demonstrating practical experience in solving complex data and architecture challenges
  • Estimate, Design, Build and Deliver Azure data solutions using industry best practice
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of project documentation or consultancy deliverables, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with best practices and client requirements 
  • Help to support and maintain new and legacy software systems, ensuring timely and effective resolutions while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Input to the continuous improvement of practice and standards within the team
  • Provide consultancy and advisory services, guiding clients on best practices for cloud data architecture and software solutions
  • Provide contributions to the future technical strategy of the team

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Excellent analytical skills and a proven ability to think creatively to solve problems
  • Ability to understand the E2E view of the data lifecycle from creation/ingestion to analysis and define appropriate data models and transformations
  • Significant experience in the development of data solutions within Azure, utilising functionality such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks (e.g. pyspark/python), Synapse Analytics, Logic and Function Apps and Azure SQL
  • In depth experience with data integration and ingestion from various sources such as API, excel, csv; data transformations; and pipelines using structured / unstructured data.
  • Strong experience of working in an Agile delivery team and developing and deploying applications using DevOps practises in a production environment through a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Demonstrable experience of testing across e2e lifecycle, including ETL, Unit, Regression 
  • Strong technical leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to effectively lead and collaborate with other developers and teams to solve technical problems and achieve project goals
  • Excellent communications skills and experience working directly with clients and customers,  to provide credible insights and guidance 
  • Expertise in carrying out quality assurance activities and offering guidance on best practices for cloud data architecture and software solutions.
  • A degree in an analytical discipline such as engineering, mathematics, computer science, economics, social sciences, or equivalent industry experience.
