The Seagate Design Engineering group comprises of teams across functional groups of ARS, Electrical Integration, Servo, Mechanical, Test Process and Firmware. The Advanced Recording sub-system, or ARS in short, is a highly bonded group that consists of specialists in various sub-groups of HDE (Head Disk Electrical), HDM (Head Disk Mechanical) & Channel preamp.

The Advanced Recording sub-system, or ARS in short, is a highly bonded group that consists of specialists in various sub-groups of HDE (Head Disk Electrical), HDM (Head Disk Mechanical) & Channel preamp.
The Head Disk Electrical "ARS-HDE" team comprised of diverse talented professionals that is nested within the bigger Advanced Recording sub-system organization spread across 3 design centers (1 in Asia and 2 in USA), but also work closely with vertically integrated suppliers and factories across the globe. The team program Drive Development spanning the various phase of Design, Integration, Qualification & Launch. Recording sub-system to optimize tunning to improve Head & Media matching design & verified component integration robustness. Feature core system that focused on cross generation evolving designs to boost areal density. Advanced Product Development to research new ideas to gain capacity or improve reliability & quality. ARS-HDE breath of product involvement stretches from near-term product development launch to 3~4 years ahead of product design staging.
About the role - you will:
As an Advanced Recording Engineering intern with the ARS-HDE team, be involved and responsible in the future of hard disk drive product development to advance & support the fast-growing enormous data needs of the future. You will gain hands-on experience in:

Learning HDD basics, recording subsystems, and future-oriented recording advancements.

Supporting engineers in algorithm development, read channel and preamp tuning, and laser parameter optimization.

Conducting basic Drive in-situ measurement, integration testing, and data analysis.

Developing project management skills by organizing project scopes and workflows with guidance from your supervisor.

Support the development of productivity tools for Head/Media design verification, including scripting for data analytics, GUI development, and Python programming.

Work on a research project to explore new design methodologies, including coding scripts to test design spaces and developing neural network models
About you:

Adaptable and self-motivated, with a keen ability to work both independently and within a team.

Strong foundation in basic physics and electrical engineering

Able to commit full time semester internship (Jan to May)
Your experience includes:
-
Pursuing a degree in Electrical Electronics Engineering, Microelectronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or Data Science.

Knowledge of test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, waveform generators)
-
Familiarity with magnetic recording components or communication systems is advantageous.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, or C is an advantage
-
Knowledge of neural networks or other machine learning techniques is an added advantage

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Location:
The Shugart site (named after Seagate’s founder, Al Shugart) is a research and design center. Easily accessible from the One-North MRT Station, many employees choose to take mass transportation to work.
