Job Summary

Western Governors University is hiring an Associate Date Engineer to join our team onsite in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Data Engineer will contribute to developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines to ensure data is accessible and ready for analysis. This role involves assisting in designing and implementing data workflows, creating analytical reports and dashboards, and supporting the team in troubleshooting and optimizing data processes. The ideal candidate is motivated to learn, demonstrates strong collaboration skills, and thrives in a dynamic environment with diverse team members.

Primary Responsibilities

  • ETL/ELT Pipeline Development: Assist in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines to support analysis and reporting needs.

  • Data Transformation: Help process and transform data from diverse sources, including relational databases, APIs, and file formats like JSON and XML.

  • Reporting and Dashboards: Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using tools like Tableau or ThoughtSpot.

  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Work closely with team members to troubleshoot issues, optimize workflows, and deliver effective solutions.

  • Agile Project Delivery: Contribute to projects within an agile framework, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks.

  • Monitoring and Maintenance: Support monitoring of data processes, addressing quality issues, and ensuring smooth operation.

Skills and Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Exposure to data visualization tools like Tableau or ThoughtSpot is a plus.

  • Interest in learning about cloud environments and big data tools (e.g., Databricks, Hadoop, Spark).

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to collaborate across a diverse team.

  • Ability to work effectively with both experienced colleagues and new peers.

The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:
 

Pay Range: $87,200.00 - $130,800.00

Full-time Regular Positions (FT classification, standard working hours = 40)
