Senior Data Scientist

In this role you would be working as a member of the Data Science team and collaborating extensively with other functions within Data Analytics as well as with a variety of internal stakeholders. This role is best filled by a seasoned data scientist with broad experience throughout statistics, machine learning, and software development.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Conducting end-to-end analysis that spans requirements gathering through the creation of reusable data products

  • Proactively identifying white space opportunities, quickly assessing value and feasibility, and delivering against strategic opportunities through application of data science and machine learning methods

  • Developing production-ready code and applying a strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecyle

  • Working with large and complex data sets to solve difficult open-ended problems by applying well-established techniques

  • Conducting exploratory data analyses to identify trends, patterns and insights that inform business decisions and drive outcomes

  • Providing thought leadership on emerging trends and best practices in data analytics and their potential applications to the business

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data-driven insights are incorporated into decision-making processes

  • Advising and supporting product development and Technology teams in developing new applications and platforms with an analytics-first mindset

  • Learning new approaches, tools, and techniques and sharing them with the team

You bring:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field; our teams bring a diverse set of backgrounds and perspectives

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional (or post-graduate) experience in data analytics or a related field with a proven track record of delivering data-driven insights and recommendations

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of statistical concepts and methods

  • Extensive experience with Python, PySpark and common data science libraries

  • Solid understanding of common data structures and algorithms with experience solving complex data problems efficiently

  • Strong knowledge accessing and manipulating large amounts of data, across a variety of formats and with a variety of tools, and experience troubleshooting large distributed pipelines / queries—you understand typical bottlenecks and trade-offs

  • Experienced with SQL (any dialect) including advanced concepts

  • Knowledge of foundational machine-learning concepts and algorithms and the ability to learn and implement emerging techniques

  • Exposure to cloud computing fundamentals is an asset

  • Experience collaborating as a team to develop analytics and software solutions

  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and comfortable interfacing with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds; we interact with both technical and non-technical audiences and value clear communication and effective storytelling

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity
