We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join Strategic Analytics, a global team, though the role will be based in London. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing the development, automation, and deployment of ETL pipelines, as well as supporting the continued development of an R and SQL based actuarial tool. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within the London team, reporting to the Strategic Analytics AVP based in London, who leads on Data Engineering with Strategic Analytics. This role is part of a broader initiative to advance the analytics capability across the business and to automate and streamline the use of one of PL Re’s key proprietary big datasets.


Key Responsibilities:

  • R Development. Manage and contribute to the development of an R package designed to run experience analyses utilizing SQL Server for data management and processing, and implementing API functionality for ingesting assumptions based on user inputs.

  • Data Checking, Processing and Automation: Ensure accuracy and consistency in data, and develop and deploy ETL pipelines that bring together multiple data sources.

  • Data Pipeline and Product Management: Manage and maintain live data pipelines and dashboards.

  • Ad-hoc Data Queries: Support business teams with ad-hoc data queries.

  • Analytics Projects: Contribute to analysis projects using data engineering skills and in-depth knowledge of team data.
     

Required Skills and Experience:
Technical Proficiency:

  • o    Strong experience with Python, SQL and Tableau; Experience working with AWS is a plus.

  • o    Proven ability to build, deploy, and manage data extraction, transformation and load (ETL) pipelines.

  • o    Experience with AWS (Redshift, Glue and Lambda Functions, knowledge of Terraform is desirable.

  • o    Ideally, experience working in the insurance/reinsurance industry.

  • SQL (ideally Redshift and Microsoft SQL Server)

  • Tableau

  • Git

  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and/or

  • 3-5 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
