The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Join the laboratory of Zhongjian Wang at SPMS. We are seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to a project focused on machine learning, seismic imaging and monitoring of the Lumut Balai geothermal field in Indonesia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Seismic data collection, processing, and analysis, specifically for the Lumut Balai geothermal field, Indonesia

  • Developing new seismic imaging techniques to reveal detailed subsurface structures at 0-10 km depths. The techniques will be then integrated with modern machine learning technology

  • Applying novel earthquake location methods to monitor microseismicity in the Lumut Balai geothermal field

  • Publish high-quality scientific results in Tier-1 journals

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, or related areas, with focus on seismic imaging

  • Experience in inverse problems, seismic data analysis, and geological interpretation

  • Proficient in coding languages, such as C, C++, Fortran, and Python.

  • Strong publication record
