The Data Engineering Director will lead our data and quality engineering capability across BT. This includes establishing our engineering best practices, standards, processes and frameworks for the data engineering practice, with a focus on our next generation data engineering built on AWS, GCP and Data Fabric. As our most senior Data and AI leader in India, you will focus on growing and leading our India data engineering community. You’ll also play a critical role in sponsoring and leading plans to attract, engage, develop and retain the best talent across the Data and AI India based team.

What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities

•  Establish our engineering standards, processes, and frameworks for the data engineering practice, with a focus on our next generation data engineering built on AWS, GCP and Data Fabric
•  Manage data quality operations – working in tandem with the Data Operations Centre and Data Management to deliver data quality and remediation teams by domain.
•  Triage Data Quality issues and act on remediation in conjunction with CIO teams to fix at source.
•  Using core platforms, perform extraction of data from a source system, and move the data from the source into Google cloud – with dedicated vertical squads allocated by capacity.
•  Use and customise relevant code templates (supplied by Core Engineering) to deliver the data to the data cloud platform. Transform data into the data model that will then be used by the relevant analytics and business applications.
•  Grow and optimise our India-based teams, including our permanent employees primarily based in Bangalore and Gurugram, as well as our India-based partners located across the country. This covers direct line management of our India-based data engineering chapter as well as building a community of practice for all data engineering, irrespective of reporting line.
•  Recruitment, retention and reskilling strategies for India-based employees across Data and AI
•  Developing core skills capabilities in GCP, AWS, AB Initio
•  Responsible for investigating emerging trends in data-related approaches, performing horizon-scanning for the organisation and introducing innovative ways of working, with a focus on the India market, peers and competitors.
•  Make budget spend decisions for India-based teams.
•  Manage relationships with Subcontract Vendors to augment internal team.
•  Coordinate demand and balance of data engineering resource deployed into the CU/CFU facing.
