Our Co-op Data Engineer will help optimize the performance of our growing fleet of more than 350+ wind turbines and solar inverters. Using your technical knowledge and analytical skills, you will transform millions of data points into actionable insights to inform tactical and strategic operating decisions.

The goal of this analysis is to ensure that every kilowatt of energy that the turbines and solar assets could produce is being produced. With access to our SCADA systems, you will use existing code and develop new code to identify outliers in the operating data, which you will flag and monitor. You will develop dashboards, summary reports, and other tools so that our Asset Management team can leverage these insights to make better decisions.

Our Associate Data Engineer is responsible for putting data to work for Scout’s fleet of operating projects. You will collect and analyze downtime, time series, and operating data in order to identify approaches to optimize fleet operations. You will share analysis of deviations from optimal performance with our field staff to identify the root cause, select appropriate solutions, and develop a timeline to resolve the issue.

Your day-to-day work will involve

  • Analyzing wind and solar operational data to identify opportunities for increasing energy output.
  • Building and supporting data validation models and tools to ensure data being recorded is accurate.
  • Building and supporting statistical models to identify underperforming assets.
  • Automating operational and metric reporting.
  • Utilizing data visualization and other strategies to tailor reports and forecasts for key audiences, including Asset Management, senior managers, and our investors.
  • Developing and documenting processes to increase the efficiency of our work.
  • Supporting our monthly reporting structure, working with site staff to identify deviations from target performance and key drivers.
  • Resolving issues and concerns by leveraging the internal and external resources at your disposal.
  • Evaluating increasingly complex issues or concerns to more senior staff, accompanied by recommendations for resolution.
  • Providing ad-hoc data analysis to support our internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engaging with our data historian, central server, wind turbine OEM SCADA systems, substation SCADA systems, and SCADA data aggregation/historian platforms to support solutions that identify and report on performance deviations.
