The Role

Data and Information is a key asset that will drive value for The Office Group; this role will deliver capabilities that will unlock value, drive efficiencies and support daily business operations across all areas of the company.

Positioned within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) technology function and reporting to the Head of Data & Systems Development this role sits in an exciting area that requires both technical and business knowledge. You will work closely with the data engineering team and analyst functions in other areas of the business, to design and build visualisations that transform data into comprehensible and accurate information from which key business action and insight can be derived. You’ll take ownership of the visualisation layer of our data platform, collaborating with a large cross-section of the organisation to empower colleagues to answer their own questions as they unlock the value in our data.

You will build strong relationships with senior stakeholders in all areas of the business, understanding what data and insights are required, prioritising and aligning with the strategic data & analytics roadmap. The role requires experience working in small data teams that liaise with the wider technical team and several different business departments.

The work delivered by you and the wider data team will enable better decisions to be made in all areas of the  business, directly creating additional value and improving operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyse data from different sources, to support the development of data visualisations in Power BI.
  • Develop and govern Power BI reports, semantic models and dashboards to provide repeatable, high-quality insight to users to self-serve their own data & insight requirements.
  • Create and maintain complex DAX calculations and measures to assist data analysis and KPI measurement.
  • Be the subject matter expert in Power BI development, sharing your knowledge and mentoring others in the business.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the delivery of strategic analytics priorities and measure progress against these.
  • Work with business representatives to understand the structure and flow of the business’ work, identifying new reporting solutions.
  • Support data governance initiatives by contributing to new data quality standards and identifying opportunities to improve data accuracy.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in visualisation tools and technologies, and the latest industry trends, evaluating their potential to improve our data visualisation capabilities.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure data infrastructure, systems, and tools are optimised to support efficient data reporting.
  • Help foster a culture of data-driven decision making within the organisation, promoting the use of analytics to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

 

Requirements

  • Previous experience in Power BI data visualisation and reporting
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful reports in Power BI, with an excellent understanding of data visualisation techniques and the most effective way to convey information
  • Extensive experience of requirements gathering across cross-functional teams, prioritisation, solution design and build
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and practices
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Detailed understanding of semantic model design and maintenance
  • Extensive experience in Power BI model development, report design and implementation, including Power Query and DAX
  • Highly proficient in developing and optimising complex Power BI solutions
  • Knowledge of end-to-end BI solutions and architecture, covering upstream from the presentation layer
  • Experience with the Microsoft Data Platform stack, including Data Factory, Azure SQL Server,  Data Lakes, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and Messaging technologies
  • Proficient in SQL and proficient in advanced DAX for creating measures and KPIs
  • Exposure to advanced analytics and machine learning concepts for enhancing data insights
  • Demonstrate a strong analytical mind and problem-solving skills
  • A creative thinker with attention to detail
  • Able to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across borders and functions
