What is the role?

 

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Data Analyst (Band 6) within the AFP, Digital Forensics (DF) Complex Evidence Review and Enrichment Team (CERET).

 

DF CERET is a growing team who use forensic, legal technology and data analysis software to manage, analyse, review and gain critical insights into large volumes of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) in support of AFP investigations and other internal stakeholders. We have a team of high-performing talented people who are passionate about what they do.

 

The successful candidate(s) will be working alongside Data Scientists, DF Examiners and other DF specialists. You will be providing operational support to active investigations by preparing, enriching and delivering ESI material to multiple stakeholders including investigators, lawyers and partner agencies through Forensic and Legal Technology software. 

 

The role is varied in the day-to-day activities and may involve assisting stakeholders with the usage of Legal Technology software, processing and performing quality assurance on ESI etc.

 

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

 

  • Assist internal stakeholders with the usage of Legal Technology software (eg. Nuix)
  • Consult with stakeholders on workflows and processing options
  • Assist with establishing data review strategies, including negotiating, establishing and executing protocols to manage privileged material
  • Engineer bespoke processes to meet stakeholder needs
  • Execute data ingestion and processing for stakeholder review
  • Perform enrichments on data to improve review effectiveness
  • Seek new ways to enhance and maximise the probative value of data
  • Perform quality assurance over data at the beginning and end of investigative review
  • Assist the brief preparation of active investigations and attend court when required

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application
  • A Negative Vetting 2 (Top Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to plan, drive and deliver on multiple concurrent tasks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and self-management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience using Legal Technology software such as Nuix or Relativity

Desirable Requirements

 

  • Demonstrate ability to solve complex problems
  • Can work independently
  • An inquisitive mind
  • Experience with scripting languages
  • Intermediate skill using Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with eDiscovery and the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM)
  • An understanding of an investigations workflow
  • Interest in data and data science
  • Knowledge of Digital Forensics tools, processes and methodology

Additional Information

 

  • Candidates will be required to successfully complete a Psychological Assessment to be able to progress through this process.
  • This role has been advertised in multiple locations and can be performed from any of the main AFP offices in those states/territories, with the exception of Canberra where the preference would be for applicants to be located in the Majura Forensic Facility.
  • This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement 2017- 2020, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their Base Salary which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
