Description

As part of the Year of AI at The University of Texas at Austin, the College of Pharmacy, College of Natural Sciences, and Cockrell School of Engineering invite applications for three faculty positions as part of a cluster hire on “Artificial Intelligence in Cancer Therapeutics”. Applicants at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level are preferred, however established investigators at tenured Associate and tenured Professor levels will also be given consideration. It is broadly expected that successful candidates will be placed within Pharmacy (Divisions of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, or Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery), Natural Sciences (Departments of Molecular Biosciences), and Cockrell School of Engineering (Departments of Biomedical Engineering or Chemical Engineering). Successful candidates, depending on career stage, will already have or will quickly establish a robust extramurally funded research program bridging mechanistic cancer biology, development of cancer therapeutics, and artificial intelligence. Successful candidates will also contribute to graduate and professional program instruction, and instructional responsibilities will include developing new courses on artificial intelligence in biology. Additional responsibilities include providing service to the College/University and broader scientific community and contributing to the vision, mission, and strategic plan of the College and University, particularly as it relates to the incorporation of artificial intelligence in the University’s research and teaching missions.

The University of Texas at Austin is a top-ranked public university. The Colleges of Pharmacy, Natural Sciences, and Engineering together are highly ranked nationally with substantial extramural funding (NIH, NSF, DOD, DOE). Cancer biology and cancer drug development represent strong focus areas of research and training. This AI Cluster Hire aims to recruit a diverse group of experts dedicated to fostering growth of biomedical AI and data science related to cancer. Successful candidates will integrate with, benefit from, and substantially advance the existing cancer research enterprise at the University. Investigators will find a rich network of collaborators, research resources, and mentored career support to help build/strengthen their research programs. UT Austin supports the Center for Biomedical Research Services with a variety of core facilities to support research. Collaboration exists through the Center for Molecular Carcinogenesis and Toxicology, the Livestrong Cancer Institutes, the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Graduate Programs, the Dell Medical School, among others. UT Austin is in the heart of Texas adjacent to the Texas Hill Country, an area of the state noted for its geographic beauty, pleasant climate, cultural variety, and year-round recreational activities.
