Job description:
Purpose
The Data Specialist will be responsible for managing and analyzing large datasets, interpreting data, analyzing results, optimizing data quality, and providing insights to support business decision-making and strategy development. Data Specialist will be responsible for extracting data from a variety of sources, building and maintaining databases to handle sensitive and important data, and consolidating data from multiple sources into cohesive information. Will be responsible for data warehousing, data modeling and the creating and maintaining of metrics in tabular models. Data specialist will create and maintain data visualizations across the business using different platforms. Data specialist help ensure site and group data strategies is executed, ensure we have a sound disaster recovery plan for both data systems and reporting platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into actionable insights
- Collect, clean, and organize large volumes of data from various sources both on site and external sources such as APIs
- Create Tabular models for reporting purposes using STAR schemas, this will include the creation of KPS as metrics to govern business calculations
- Create interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations to present findings and key performance indicators (KPIs) using visualization tools like PowerBI, SSRS, Python and SAP.
- Communicate insights to stakeholders through clear and compelling data visualizations.
- Work closely with the business to ensure data integrity, quality, and accuracy
- Implement data cleansing and validation processes to identify and resolve data anomalies.
- Identify and resolve data discrepancies and errors
- Provide technical support to data needs arising from the business.
- Managing databases and data storage systems
- Developing and maintaining Data pipelines and ETL processes
- Create and maintain integration datawahouses with the region and group teams
- Develop and implement data management procedures and best practices.
- Ensure the security of our data by implementing group and region security strategies
- Lead the development and implementation of data analytics and data mining applications for the organization, with the end goal of providing actionable data
- Work closely with respective teams to ensure we fully implement the reporting strategy.
- Writing and debugging code to support data processing and analysis
- Monitor data quality metrics and proactively address data integrity issues.
- Enforce data governance policies, procedures, and controls.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct audits and assessments to evaluate data security and compliance posture.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, tools, and techniques in the field of data management and analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, analytical field (Statistics, Mathematics, etc.), Certificates in data analysis, Masters or PhD will be an added Advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years related experience
- Deep understanding of data Architecture, databases and engineering principles
- Proficiency in database management including time series databases, writing advanced SQL and DAX
- Highly experienced in Python for data visualization, analysis, integration and ETL/ELT
- Knowledgeable in objected oriented programming languages like C# and others like SCALA
- Knowledgeable Practitioner in data engineering, software engineering, and ML systems architecture
- Knowledgeable in statistical analysis with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Extensive experience in handling mining, SCADA/Historian, finance, safety, and biometric dataset
- Proficient in data modelling using SSAS, Power BI, and SAP.
- Proficient in data visualization tools such as PowerBI, SSRS, SAP, and Tableau, with a talent for effective storytelling through data
- Experience handling unstructured data and navigating unstructured challenges.
- Highly experienced in wrangling data, data cleaning, data quality checks and data mining
- Proficient in data backup and recovery processes.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Highly Knowledgeable in SOLID principles and Microservice architecture
- Working knowledge of Distributed Parallel Processing Environments such as Spark or Snowflake
- Working knowledge of problem solving/root cause analysis on Production workloads
- Highly knowledgeable in source code management using GIT/TFVC
- Working knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and Kanban development methodologies
- Highly knowledge with CI/CD and automation tools like Jenkins or Azure DevOps
- Experience with containerization tools such as Docker
