Amerisure is currently recruiting for a Data Engineering Manager that can do a 3-day hybrid approach onsite in our Farmington Hills office. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set. 

Summary Statement

The Manager of Data Engineering is responsible for overseeing the data engineering team, ensuring the efficient operation of the Lakehouse Data and Enterprise Data Warehouse platforms. This role involves talent development, stakeholder collaboration, and driving operational excellence in data engineering delivery. The manager works closely with various business units and technical teams to ensure on-time data integration, compliance with data governance standards, and development of analytic solutions. Additionally, the manager is accountable for vendor management and emergency response related to data engineering activities.

Essential Tasks/Major Duties

  • Manage, train, provide performance feedback, and assign duties of direct reports to ensure productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Oversee operations of the DataBricks Lakehouse Data platform, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and cost management.
  • Ensure data engineering services meet established data governance standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of data engineering projects, including Enterprise Data Warehouse development and data.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to manage expectations, deliverables, and performance for both Lakehouse and Enterprise Data Warehouse operations.
  • Manage relationships with data engineering and integration vendors, ensuring quality delivery and cost-effectiveness.
  • Serve as the on-call point for emergency responses related to data engineering issues and escalations.
  • Lead teams in SAFe Agile practices.
  • Support the development and execution of strategies for data acquisition and implementation.
  • Lead data migrations and conversions, troubleshooting solutions for any processing issues.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent years of experience.
  •  5 years of experience in database management, preferred experience working with DataBricks or similar platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, Scala, or R.
  • Strong understanding of advanced analytics concepts to work with stakeholders and architects to deliver business value.
  • 2 year’s experience managing big data platforms.
  • 2 years of management experience.
  • Core understanding in designing environments and systems that facilitate automated testing and code promotion in DataOps.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to effectively convey ideas and concepts in written or verbal settings. Includes concepts of audience selection and attenuation.
  • Knowledge of insurance terminology and practices with the ability to apply that knowledge in communication and data organization.
