Position Overview -  Director of Engineering

As the Director of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our company. You will lead a team of skilled engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation. Your primary responsibility will be to translate our business objectives into a robust technical roadmap, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of our SaaS platform. 

You will collaborate closely with our product team to create user experiences that cater to our clients and their end consumers. Your pivotal role will involve enhancing the value of our platform through the efficient development and delivery of product features. 

You will be actively engaged in meaningful projects, collaborate closely with cross-functional leadership teams, and gain substantial respect while working directly with high-performing team members, promoting talented team members, and offering real-world software strategic and tactical business improvement metrics.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

The Director of Engineering role entails dynamic involvement in strategy, partnership building, technical enhancements, and effective communication within the team of accomplished domain experts from ZenTrades' founding team.

Technical Strategy: You will be responsible for developing and executing our technical roadmap. This involves aligning our technology vision with our business objectives, anticipating market trends, and ensuring our SaaS platform remains competitive and innovative. You will have a significant role in defining the technical architecture and guiding its evolution

Team Management: Set clear goals and expectations for team members, providing regular feedback and performance evaluations. Participating in agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives

Product Development: Oversee the end-to-end development process, from concept to deployment. This includes setting development priorities, managing resources effectively, and ensuring that our products meet the highest quality standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to prioritize features and align development efforts with business goals.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaboration is key in a startup environment. You will collaborate closely with product management, sales, marketing, and customer support to ensure that our product aligns with market needs, customer feedback, and business goals. Effective communication and collaboration will be essential to your success

Scalability and Reliability: Implement strategies for scaling our platform while maintaining high performance and reliability

Innovation: Stay at the forefront of technology trends, evaluating and integrating emerging technologies to enhance our product

Cross-functional Collaboration: Effective communication and collaboration with product management, sales, marketing, and customer support are vital. Ensure that our product aligns with market needs, customer feedback, and business objectives

Budget and Resource Management: Manage the engineering budget, allocate resources efficiently, and optimize costs while maintaining a high level of product quality.

You will fit right if you have:

• You have a BS/MS in computer science, information systems, or equivalent

• You have 8+ years of software development experience and are an engineer at heart

• You have successfully built and managed high-performance distributed team/s

• Proven hands-on technical management experience (including managing managers) of 3+ years

• Strong people management and team-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and lead high-performing engineering teams

• Experience in successfully delivering complex software products, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment

• You excel in an informal, fast-paced startup environment with a flat organizational structure

• You have solid organizational and communication skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, keep projects on schedule & high-quality standards along with capability to roll your sleeves when needed

• A problem solver attitude where you like to dive deep into a problem, diagnose root causes and work with multiple teams to come up with a solution

• Eager to provide direction and build consistent processes in a maturing start-up culture

• Ability to influence others teams and roles to prioritize and make improvements to their technical approach and processes

• Ambitious to take an extra effort to go above and beyond the traditional growth paths    

• Strong ability to drive and encourage talent and performance
