Clinical Data Analyst I (REMOTE, USA or Hybrid-Aliso Viejo, CA)
Job Overview:
Works within the Genomic Sciences department to build query functionality for our databases, complex querying of databases, and collaborate with IT and bioinformatics departments to help solve problems. Routinely work on internal and external data collection and sharing requests. Additional functions may include reporting, online analytical processing, analytics, data mining, business performance management, benchmarking, text mining, data visualization, and predictive analytics.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for understanding workflows within operations, data storage and sharing, so that this knowledge can be applied to IT needs
- Execute data sharing requests, both internal and external, by following established protocol. Work with larger teams to improve and streamline processes.
- Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets to identify trends and patterns.
- Collaborate with IT and bioinformatics as needed to meet needs of clinical team and help create efficiencies and automation in already existing queries, summaries, and reports created routinely by the clinical group.
- Help build query functionality for AVA, AP2, Progeny and other internal systems for other teams, when possible, without impeding or conflicting with IT’s programming.
- Assist with database consistency and mapping from one system to another to ensure all needs of the clinical group have been considered in system transitions
- Help build department specific databases that are beyond the scope of IT and bioinformatics, such as gene specific databases or phenotype databases.
- Coordinate data, such as EHR, integration projects with system architects, DBAs, and vendors.
- Deploy data warehouse content using approved AWS systems and processes.
- Present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, effectively communicating complex ideas.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Post-baccalaureate degree in biology, computer science or other related field; or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in computer programing or related field
- Familiarity with data and applied computer science
- Understanding of data governance principles and best practices for ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for addressing complex data engineering challenges.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including bioinformaticians, data scientists, and domain experts.
- Familiarity with MySQL and working with relational databases.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau
- Proficiency in Excel
Preferred:
- Familiarity with molecular biology, genomics, clinical terminology, and/or bioinformatics is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in a genetics laboratory/basic genetics setting a plus
